Richard Sherman's "motivation"

PFT: Richard Sherman finds (possibly fictitious) motivation

Pretty sure the story was bullsh-t.

I've seen no actual information to indicate that Dante Pettis and Kyle Allen are friends, or have ever even met.

Along with the seven sacks Allen absorbed were his first three interceptions of his career, one of which went to veteran cornerback Richard Sherman. And after the game, Sherman said he was upset and looking for vindication against Allen, though a teammate may have just been winding him up.

Via Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle, Sherman said a conversation with teammate Dante Pettis offered all the motivation he needed in advance of playing Allen for the first time.

“I guess (Pettis is) friends” with Allen, Sherman said. “He’s like, ‘Hey, man, his plan is just to go at you.’ It’s like you’ve got to understand: I’m not new to this. I’m true to this. And my 15 minutes started an hour ago.”

Asked if he was certain Pettis wasn’t just trying to inspire him with some #fakenews, Sherman laughed and acknowledged the possibility.

“No, I’m not completely sure,” he replied. “He knows how I am, too. So he could have not known this kid at all and just said that. . . . I don’t know if he said it, but Pettis said he said it, so it pissed me off.”

They specifically tweeted this picture out, so Allen and Pettis are probably real close.

Allen could've said something jokingly to his friend or nothing at all and Pettis took it upon himself to poke the Richard Sherman bear, knowing regardless it would help the 49ers win.

@ellis jesus man, nobody is forming a lynch mob to get rid of Allen. Thought Sport Analysts like yourself would typically try to remain as unbiased as humanely possible.

Right? It was all good just a week ago when he was hyping him up.

Now it's all "Cam fans", and "those who wish Kyle Allen would go away".

Those who have to tell you repeatedly how objective and unbiased they are usually are the exact opposite of that. No one is without some form or bias at the end of the day. Guys really need to stop dancing around their agendas like their so different from anyone else who follows the team.

Well if being gullible his whole life, I think that would make him unintelligent

Josh Norman was told Dez Bryant talked poo pregame when Norman wasn't around. Norman ate it up and wanted a 1 on 1 dust up first drive of the game.

Most here applauded that behavior

That's a reach. After any given game, you can find players hugging opponents they've never met just out of respect and sportsmanship.

It's not impossible that they know each other, but I haven't seen any actual sign of it (even via search).

I think it's more likely that Pettis was just messing with Sherman.

    • Just another 1st round QB that never paid off for the team that drafted them or traded for them. It's been like this since the SB began. 36 QBs have now won the SB & only 13 of them have been 1st rounders winning with their original team. Namath 1968, Griese 1972, Bradshaw 1974, McMahon 1985, Simms 1986, Aikman 1992, Elway 1997, Roethlisberger 2005, P.Manning 2006, E.Manning 2007, Rodgers 2010, Flacco 2012, & Mahomes 2019. Only 3 have taken longer than 5 seasons as the starter to win a SB.  4  6  5  4  6  4  15  2  9  4  3  5  2 [the years it takes for these 1st round QBs] 5  1  4  1  3  1  1  2  3  4  [10 of the 36 have won a chip with their 1st team that haven't been drafted in the 1st round. These are the years it took them as a starter] What stands out? Only 2 of these QBs have lost their first championship appearance. Elway took 4 years as a 1st rounder & Hurts took 2 years as a 2nd rounder. Of the 10 non-1st round QBs, 2 are 2nd rounders, 3 are 3rd rounders, 5 are 6th rounders or later. Please stop wasting time on drafting 1st round QBs with such a high failure rate. The remaining 13 QBs are traded or free agent signings. Stafford, Favre, Young, Williams and Dawson are the 5 trades. Peyton Manning & Tom Brady also won for teams as free agents on a short stay as well as being drafted. The lesson here is don't waste your franchise on farming up 1st rounders for the league, and steer clear of trading for a franchise QB. Stick to finding that championship QB by drafting them outside of the 1st round or through free agency.
    • I lost most of the respect I had for Fox in 2010. He should have resigned if he hated the job that much. Instead he stuck for his paycheck and let stuff go to hell.    I burned out on Ron too but my deal breaker issue with him was away from football and after he was gone from the Panthers. He may have been out of his depth but never quit on us.
    • From where they were one year ago to now, pretty incredible. I mean, say what you want about Vrabel he is no Jerrod Mayo.
