I think it's kind of a double-edged sword.

Yes, players are going to hide injuries and you can't fault coaches for that.

On the flip side, when even the untrained eye can see if someone is obviously not right, a coach who walks around going "well he told me he was fine" looks like a dunce.

He’s going to get raked over the coals regardless. This is a guy who can’t even discipline his players for not following a protocol. Even if it is Sir Cameron Newton.

Well, technically he disciplined him for not wearing a tie once.

(granted, some of us thought that was ginned up just to make Rivera look like a hardass)

I know what the discipline was for...

Does it really matter what it was about?

I'd say that's a matter of opinion.

My own is that there a lot of things that concern me about Rivera. How much he's really in control is one of them.

Rivera definitely inspires loyalty in his players. That's not a bad thing, but there may not be enough good things about him to make him worth keeping.

Rivera's fault? fug your ignorance.

To be fair, there's two sides.

Yes, Newton withheld information from Rivera. Newton himself admits that, and it's generally understood this was a bad thing.

On the flipside, pretty much every single one of our thoroughly untrained and non-professional eyes could see that something was wrong. Are we really to believe that Rivera couldn't?

It's a fair question.

Say want you want, Cam is an adult, and is responsible for his own actions.

If Rivera decided to play a player when he told not to, then there would be another side to it.

Rivera's not blind, though. Nor is he powerless.

It's genuinely a fair question to ask.

Nope, he's not blind,  and not powerless.

An adult player intentionally misled him, and it's his fault?

Put that poo down.

I see my kid break something.

I go up to him and I say something about it.

Despite my having seen him do it with my own eyes and him being aware of that, he says he didn't do it.

I say "okay" and go off acting like I don't know what happened, my rationale being "Well, he told me he didn't break it."

Is that the kid's fault or mine?

This is inappropriate

Ron is an adult and is responsible for his team. A blind man could see Newton wasn't able to perform at his normal level. A good coach would have called that out and adjusted accordingly.
