Kyle Allen is more Joe Flacco (Ravens era) than Tom Brady or Kirk Cousins

I have been thinking and struggling on who Kyle Allen is and what he can become. Some want to crown him as our very own Tom Brady, but I don’t think his ceiling is that high. Others say he is Kirk Cousins, an ok QB that will flash greatness in rare occasions but more often than not, disappoint you, I don’t agree with that either, I think Allen is a bit more consistent and better than Cousins.

No, it finally went off like a light bulb. Joe Flacco. That is exactly Kyle Allen’s potential right there. Both are QBs that are overall consistent, however both are very much traditional, vanilla QBs. They aren’t going to dazzle you and mesmerize you, they just simply are both reliable QBs you can count on to just get the job done. 

If you look at Flacco’s stats over the years, eerily similar to Allen’s over the course of his career. Frankly, if we have a Joe Flacco on our hands (Ravens Flacco NOT crappy Broncos Flacco) then that is fine by me.

See I’m not so sure about that, the coaching part I mean. Infact Kyle Allen/Flacco seems just exactly the type of QB a Rivera led team would have. A vanilla, run of the mill QB that just goes out there and does what he has to do with a heavy run first offense. 
 

Unless we completely implode, I would be ok with keeping the current regime one more year and see what Norv and Kyle can do in a entire off season with KA as the bonafide starter

Joe Flacco is 6"6, had a very strong arm during his prime, 1st round draft pick

Kyle Allen is tiny, has baby sized hands, and doesn't have the arm strength to throw it deep

Kyle Allen's best comparison and upside is Case Keenum, another guy that undrafted from Houston, but could be a game manager in the right system

 

Allen is 6’3, he just needs to add some weight and strength and he will be find

This team is destined to sit around 7-9/8-8 with the current regime which is pretty much being stuck in purgatory. If we completely implode and get a hard reset that is us getting lucky. I would rather not sit another ten years of that let alone five if we can do the hard reset now.

Way too early for that sort of comparison until we show we can actually throw downfield consistently to keep defenses honest.

Flacco is a Super Bowl champion and frankly played out of his mind on the Ravens playoff run that year. Deserved MVP. Yeah they obviously had a ridiculous defense but Joe willed them often that year.

I see Kyle Allen as more of an Alex Smith type. If you surround him with an elite defense, running game, and coaches he can produce. However, very few teams have the luxury of having all three elements. The games we won this year is either CMC getting 160+ yards from scrimmage or the defense forcing 3+ turnovers and sacks.

      Right. I didn’t think it was good either but the QB sure did. He was the defacto number one target, not Chark, was my point.

      We could quibble about was that an answer to what I asked but I  don’t see it as being one. Look, he agreed to this Evero thing. Up front. Apparently anyway. Took the job with those conditions in place. I buy that and will work off of it.  This play calling issue isn’t the same thing. I am not in the mood to delve into Canales’ shortcomings and get out the pitchforks at the moment. I will abstain from that topic and stick to the quandary the dissenters who want to usurp his play calling power, find themselves in. As far as that goes I am still on the fence and think the play calling is Bryce centric and the play selection/playbook is affected. That does not mean I know that if the playbook was open he would be great play caller. Just that he is hampered right now.  Inserting an OC not of Canales’ approval changes the original parameters of the assumed agreement.  Unless you think Tepper placed a contractual prescription to allow Tepper to dictate that he can insert a play caller of his choosing after a time period if he is not satisfied with Canales’ work.  Which, do you really think that is in play?  I do not.    Unless it is, Canales has the option to yea or nay. As I said, it could be forced on him. But they only do that if they want him out.  And as of now his stock is up, I would have to say I don’t own any but I think it is up. He had the stadium rocking, the team in the playoffs, and has that sorry lil draft pick trending upward. Even at this very low rate.  I think he has ‘hand’ right now as they say on Seinfeld. This is something that may get play in the 2026 season, not now. IMO.
