KUDOS again to Ron Meeks

at the beginning of the season i felt the defense was soft. he made the comment that he was keeping it "simple" and i thought that was a big mistake.

now i see his logic and planning. its all starting to come together. you don't just bring in a complex defense and master it in one training camp and preseason. by the beginning of the season, the "basic" package had been installed and was being run. now, it grows more complex each week. fixing our defense wasn't a one season project and i can now see meeks' brilliance and feel comfortable that with one season under our belt in his system, and a couple of key off season additions next spring, this defense has the real potential to become one of the premier defenses in the league and i don't mean for a season or two but for the next decade and could rival the most recent, lasting strong defenses of the ravens, steelers and giants of the past decade. i really feel we have that type of potential. we're going to play great this season the rest of the way i think but we're going to be dominate over the next several years.

after wanting to trade peppers, i hope he likes this new system and i feel sure it was the old system that he was wanting to get away from.

nice job ron! you da man! :cornut:

I have to admit, he has definitely put his touch on the Defense. we pretty much have the same players, but we are fast to the ball, and didn't really give up many big plays. only 2 TDs through the air, and short ones at that. Coverage was good most of the night. big test next week.

I remember just two or three weeks ago, people were calling for him to be fired, lol.

I too hope Pep decides to stick it out - He has really come on, pretty much being a dominating force on defense for quite a while now, even if the stats dont always show it.

I heard the commentators today say we have the #1 pass defense in the NFL. i was like wtf since when?? whether or not thats true we sure looked like it today. meeks is doing a hell of a job. wasn't too keen on him at first, but it looks as though the defense has really started to come together over the past few weeks.

I wonder how much of an impact our new DL coach is also having. The DL has been MUCH better this year than last season imo.

Yep. What was thought of as the defense's weakest facet has now become one of its strongest. The line is getting great pressure. Thomas has been a force, and all of our ends played well.

As a result of that pressure, our secondary and linebackers were able to really shine today as well.

Our pass defense is ranked high because our rush defense is ranked low. The Redskins have the 2nd ranked pass defense. Teams won't pass when they can gash a team on the ground.

From what I remember of his time with the Colts, Meeks' defense has always been like that.

But considering the passing offense we were against today, I'd say Meeks did well keeping them in check for the most part.

thats exactly why today was our first REAL test. Warner was picked off 5 times. we had great coverage for most of the game. and kept Fitz out of the endzone. the next huge test is at NO. hopefully we won't get carved. I think it could come to who's defense is better

This is not the same defense the Colts ran. I wish people would stop comparing us to them. The Colts never blitzed like the Panthers do this year. Meeks said from day one that he was going to run schemes to take advantage of what the players do best, and that he was not afraid to blitz when he needed to. It may have taken a couple of games for the players to get adjusted, but you can tell that they're getting better every week.

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
