you have to remember that the main injury, Cam Newton's, can't really be used as a scapegoat because it was essentially Ron and Hurney's fault for not building a decent o-line in their decade on this team.

Ron beat Cam with a baseball bat, he can't then say "look Cam got beat with a baseball bat, you can't fire me!"

I hate when people say he did a great job with injuries. That's such a sign of a mediocre coach. You have injuries every damn year and if you wait till your healthy to win you win one season out of 10.

Who are your top-3 picks to replace Riverboat as the Head Ball Coach?

But even though I absolutely want Ron gone. In the first half of the season he did admirable with all the injuries surrounding the team. Gonna give him credit there.

Honestly this has been his scapegoat for several seasons now. When's the last time this team has gone through a full season without a significant injury that hinders the team?

Be that as it may, should Ron get the benefit of the doubt again this year? Due to the huge amount of injuries to key positions on the team?

Cam, Short, GVR, Turner (first part of the season), little, Irvin, Poe, etc.

It's almost like fate is dealing him a bad hand just to get him out of here..

A positive out of this is that there have been players that have stepped up. Unfortunately I believe the injuries have taken their toll on this team.

Hurney is fooling you again with the injuries.

Ron has done a terrible job this season. Beating down on all the bad teams and lost to all the good teams. Ron and Hurney lost one single player this season to injury and that’s Cam Newton. You want to talk about a HC that has done a good job? That’s Mike Tomlin.   Steelers are 6-5 in a tougher division than the NFCS. They lost three starters: Big Ben, Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown to injury/FA. Has started 3 different QBs this season: Ben, Rudolph and Hodges.

I think he deserves another season and I think it would be unwise to let him go on to another team and win there while we were left with: a QB controversy, a slew of injuries (particularly to the lines), and a rebuild of the entire defense in progress. In short, he would go and get to work something new out there, while we would have to rebuild amongst what was already a remodeling project.

If you keep Rivera, you're inviting us to have another 2010.

I guarantee that.

This is the worst he's looked since his first year and midnight's struck and his glass slipper turned back into a pumpkin.

You might be a fan of the guy and that's fine...but to cling onto the fading embers of hope of a fire long burned out is detrimental to this franchise.

If we let him go, we could also be looking at a new take on George Seifert.

From where I stand, this year's roster is worse than last year's, and that's not all on Hurney.

Since 2011, Ron will have had 3 winning seasons.

Where in any of this do you find an argument to keep him another year beyond the fact you seem to be a fan?

And as far as "could bes", we already know what we have in Ron.

A lesser Fox clone.

Besides, as someone else stated in another thread, it appears Ron himself has checked out of this season.

There's no shame in parting ways.

Maybe he'll learn from this and become a better coach elsewhere.

Rather than give reasons, which, honestly, I've done about a thousand times it seems on this board, let me just instead say, let's watch and see what happens. I don't think he or Hurney are going anywhere.

I mean, it could be Jason Garret and Dallas instead. Whew, that's a bad, bad set up.

If Ron gets fired or is allowed to walk from the Panthers he's probably going to be successful on another team, at least for a while before he falls back onto his instincts.  It'll be like John Fox during his honeymoon phase in Denver.  Everybody in the fanbase will be sharply divided over whether it was a monstrous mistake to let him go.

Today did neither fellow any favors.

To be fair, the first half of our season consisted mostly of beating bad teams.

I already knew Rivera could do that.

He has lost to two BAD teams the last three weeks  He cannot even beat bad teams now...

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
