Why did he step down though?

That's the (multi) million dollar question. I gotta think something really big and really bad has happened off the field to lead to this. Even if he has an NFL gig already lined up I think he would've absolutely stuck it out with his team that he recruited through the end of the season.

All reports are he just felt like stepping away. No ulterior motive.

He will continue working with the team in an advisory role. No tinfoil hat needed

I wonder if he's pulling a Pete Carroll and hitting the road before the NCAA comes down on the program for something.

If he really is stepping away to "recharge" as the reports say, I highly doubt he would want to jump into an even more stressful environment in the NFL.

I'm not actually familiar with him or with the situation but this is valid.

I didn't necessarily think had to be something ulterior, one of my thoughts was that potentially a spouse or child had gotten seriously ill or something that would simply not allow him to effectively do the job.

Hey, at the end of the day, if he's over it I respect that. A lot of guys would've just mailed it in and kept cashing that check for awhile.

    • lmao that's a good point; but at the same time I think and HOPE Canales learned from how he operated last year, only giving us one real look against the Bills that had people shouting 'Super Bowl'...only to come out flat.
    • I mean the whole defense was trash, he was at least trying. Besides if you put a all-pro among 10 PSers, that all-world will look human. It's very hard to judge very bad units and find the best players among them. Horn and Mjack played well too, there was 0 pass rush and -1777784 run defense.
    • I was looking back and seen Evan Neal has made the switch to OG after awful years at OT.......I wanted him over Icky for his tricep alone..... I was 100% stroud too, I was super pissed about his record setting and playoff leading start......I had arich vastly over the midget BY too. But right now, BY is about the only one on the up&up. The Texans used lots of prime draft capital to help Stroud.  It's still not ready. But if you're honestly about past drafts, these GMs are not alone in making mistakes.  I still feel they should stayed put and allowed Carter to fall in their lap, but best I know Tepper had the worst rage about landing a QB for the past 5 years. The deal is with the correct coaching staff, Baker or darnold would still be here....Baker has signed 3 years for 100 million, which is a great NFL QB contract. Tepper hiring rhule and his shitty Baylor/temple staff was a massive setback given rhule was in control too. Then panic set in an d fitteerererererer had to make a winner and find a QB. Ugh.....I hope they are back...
