I would fire Hurney just for this

How the hell was Hurney supposed to know how good Butker would be?

Most solidified kickers in the NFL do not get replaced when their second-string kicker does well.

Because when you're an NFL GM, that's your job.

Fair or not, success in that role involves being able told accurately predict what's going to happen more often than not.

Guys who do it well get championships. Guys who do it poorly get fired.

Going to help you out a bit here.

Butker plays in one of the hardest kicking stadiums in the NFL.  He has attempted 98 field goals since signing with KC, Gano has attempted 46.  Butker has attempted 136 extra point attempts, Gano has attempted 70.

Do you really not know how percentages work?

Butker has similar %'s to Gano, however he has attempted double the amount of kicks over the same amount of time for what would have cost us less than 2M vs. 14M.

Hell, for fun, do the math real quick and break down Gano's cost per made field goal, and what Butkers would have been had he stayed here and attempted the same amount.

$13,000,000 difference, and counting, isn't a dramatic amount of money dedicated solely to the kicker in a hard salary cap sport?

And just because we can't have a single thread about Hurney without someone bringing up DG...you may want to use some context about "fireable offense", although context really isn't your thing.

The reason nobody brought up that move as a fireable offense is because we had just come off of a trip to the Super Bowl.  Whereas in this situation, we haven't had a winning season in 3 years, your head coach just got fired, and Gano is still costing this team money today, and will next year.

You speak of context and then say we haven’t had a winning season in 3 years when this season has yet to play out and if I remember correctly we had a winning record in 2017.

im also quoting the same guy who complains about a backup qb, than with hindsight list guys he would have signed, even though half the guys he listed were traded for or had a cap hit of 18 mil to obtain, than you listed THE chase Daniels like he is some savior of a backup.

doesn’t have to be dg can name a lot more gm’s who’ve made similar or worst moves and no one is calling for there head. Regardless of coming off a Super Bowl, we got people crying about a kicker and a 3rd round pick when we whiffed on 3 first round picks in a row should be all the context you should need.

Yeah....I acknowledged that the salary differences are huge, so you really don’t need to keep parroting that particular talking point. I had issue with you and others putting Butker up on a pedestal with his kicking prowess in relation to Gano, when Gano has statistically been as good or better in that same timeframe.

The fact that Butker has attempted/made more kicks does not make it more impressive...that’s not how percentages work. That’s the whole point of using percentages as a reference - you can reasonably extrapolate percentages to project performance over a higher yield, given an adequate sample size beyond like 2 kicks. You seem to be insinuating that Gano would have missed more kicks and his percentage would have dropped if he attempted a comparable number of field goals as Butker, but I could easily argue the opposite...it’s a silly argument. Is Drew Brees’ league-leading completion percentage less impressive because he has attempted much fewer passes this season due to his injury? You’re using a lot of immeasurable, subjective, arbitrary metrics (like difficulty of the kicking stadium) to prop Butker up more and more and it’s coming off like some Olympic-level mental gymnastics.
