Lombardi speculates on coaching hires

Mr. Scot

Interesting little tidbit...

Greg Roman was a defensive lineman (yep, a defensive lineman) at John Carroll university from 1991 to 1994.

The year after he graduated from there, two new players joined the team: A young quarterback named Nick Caserio and a wide receiver named Josh McDaniels. Caserio was a four year starter.

Additional teammates there were former Redskins linebacker London Fletcher and Chargers GM Tom Telesco.

I like Stefanski, but my worry is that he hasn't been at it very long. He only became an OC last season. Heck, he's only been coaching in any capacity for about ten years.

Josh McDaniels has been coaching since 2002, and I think you'd have to say his track record as an offensive coach is fairly well proven.

Greg Roman's been in coaching longer than both of them. He's also worked with a variety of quarterbacks in Alex Smith, Colin Kaepernick, EJ Manuel, Tyrod Taylor, Joe Flacco and now Lamar Jackson while, outside of his brief stint as a head coach, McDaniels has always had Tom Brady.

Really glad I'm not tasked with making this decision.

Just now, Jared Patterson said:

If we offered Lincoln Riley around 11 million a year would he take the job?

That's a million short of Belichick for a guy who's never been an NFL head coach. Hell, according to Forbes, Andy Reid only makes about 8 million (Rivera was making 7.75).

Yes, but Tepper will have no problem breaking the bank and to get someone like Riley I believe he would have to do this. Heck, he makes 6 million a year at Oklahoma

Double his salary and sign him up!

I'm not worried about his willingness to write a check.

I'm a little gun shy about paying a first time head coach the same kind of money as Pete Carroll and Sean Payton.

Lombardi apparently thinks we'll go with McDaniels per a tweet from a radio station in Boston where he did a segment (no link to the segment that I've seen, unfortunately)

If the head coach is McDaniels it's not hard to believe that Caserio will be coming aboard too.
