If McDaniels is still in the playoffs, it would be a pretty hellacious request to ask him to fly to three different places across the country while he's also still trying to plan and prep for an upcoming game.

On the flipside, if you ask teams to wait, there's a good chance they might get impatient and just hire somebody else. That's considered kind of unfair to candidates on playoff teams because they basically wind up being punished for winning. It's the reason the NFL made these opportunities in the first place.

Given the importance of a HC hire, aren't NFL teams shooting themselves in the foot if they can't wait even a week or two during the playoffs when the Super Bowl champion is still a month away from being decided before making a hiring decision?

This time next week will be filled with guesses and speculations. In two weeks I hope we have our new coach. That D coordination is the biggest part to me, I’m really worried about it.

McDaniels has a name attached (Colts DB Coach Jonathan Gannon) and is said to be interested in Redskins OC Kevin O'Connell (he might stay in DC) for the same role here, but other than that it's all speculation as far as assistants.
