Sad news...

Wyche was an offensive genius, served as the opposing coach in a couple of the best Super Bowls in history and was the last guy to make the Bengals truly relevant.

He was also famous for calling out a rowdy Bengals crowd with the words "You don't live in Cleveland!"

I'm dating myself here but I remember when Sam was a backup to both Sonny Jurgenson and Billy Kilmer.  He was officially third string quarterback but really more of an unofficial OC on the sidelines.  Sam would make observations, suggest plays and adjustments to whichever was the starter.  You could tell that he would be a HC somewhere eventually.

He lived in a county adjacent to me.  I guess in retirement he wanted a lot of land and not a lot of neighbors.  Pickens is a small, peaceful, quiet town out in the boondocks.  He nearly put a blemish on the 49ers 1980's dynasty and that would have been a huge accomplishment.

Truth be told, he probably doesn't get enough credit for as innovative as he was.

RIP Sam Wyche I remember him as being a top coach and he seemed cool at the same time.
