so what if people just say fug the rules and he interviews with us, what happens?

The NFL would make an example out of us - post season ban, millions in fines, and loss of draft picks. Meanwhile the Patriots are on their fourth cheating scandal with no repercussions.

Valid point.

I'm wondering if this means he'll ask the Eagles to allow his interview or if the Panthers will make some concessions.

The possibility certainly exists that the "assistant" title could drop after the draft.

It seems to me that the issue is even with Hurney technically “GM,” Rhule has tremendous power and I don’t see him letting someone else have sole final say in the roster he’s coaching, and that’s what we’d need to give this guy to get and interview with him.

Mike Garafolo confirmed Rhule doesn't wan roster control, just control of the "program".

Lots of speculation that the job will be his shortly.

Will be interested to see if that means anything for Andrew Berry.

If the Browns hire Paton, it means Andrew Berry is very fortunate.  Regardless of what happens with the him and the Panthers, or anybody else for that matter..

Reading up a little more on this...

It seems pretty clear that Stefanski wants Paton. The question seems to be whether Paton wants to be GM of the Browns or not.

He's turned down opportunities to even interview with other teams before. Kind of wonder if he would have turned this one down too if it weren't for Stefanski.
