this thread clearly illustrates who on this forum is actually an intelligent nfl fan who knows what it takes to win in the nfl, and those who don't really care about winning as much as feel good stories.

let me guess the intelligent fan just so happens to also share the same opinion as you

It's because he's a white running back.

Let's be brutally honest.

How many of the teams in the playoffs this year were paying a running back QB money?

San Fran has arguably the most dominant well rounded roster aside from KC and they are running over teams with multiple backs, none of which are on historic contracts.

San Franciso lmao...Fine, let's tank until 2025 and draft 4 d lineman without top 10 picks. That's the blueprint for team building?

Every team is built differently. We have an elite playmaker that needs to be the focal point of the next 5-7 years.

Are the Chiefs paying any running backs historic money?

Didn't they keep chugging right along after they had to cut Hunt?

anyone who thinks a rb should be given a significant second contract isn't an intelligent football fan. sorry, but it's the truth.

drafting a rb in the top 10 is stupid and giving them a second contract is even more stupid.

take the 3rd round comp pick when someone like the jets or redskins pay him his $100m and draft another rb who will give you better value.

with the salary cap, an nfl team has to pick and choose where to spend their money. successful teams know you don't pay rbs.

For your regular running back I would agree. But with CMC or any other multi dimensional running back. You pay them.

General trend among teams.

Have a big money QB? Expect good, serviceable help but nothing too flashy. If one develops to that point, he gets one contract and goes elsewhere or is traded for picks to help fill in holes around that QB.

Have a big money RB/WR? Expect a solid starting QB, but not the kind of guy that is going to go out and win you big game after big game when you need him to. That RB will have to carry you, largely.

Not a hard rule, but something I've noticed. Zeke and Dak. Daniel Jones and Saquon. Brady and whoever the hell his RB is year to year. Ben and whoever plays RB for him. Adrian Peterson in the first half of his career.

So our agenda

1. Tank for 4 years and get 4 d lineman with our top 10 picks

2. Find the next Patrick Mahomes

Again, there is no blueprint on how to build a team. You take your elite players (SF D lineman, KC QB) and build a system around them.

@TheRed where were you with all those statistics when we signed Cam to a big-money extension, talking about how stupid that was?  I mean...look at the previous Super Bowl winners historically and how much money they had tied to their QB.  Statistically speaking, signing QBs to big money contracts severely hampers your ability to win a Super Bowl.  We should've just let him go in FA and drafted a cheap rookie QB...right?

Everyone acts like RBs are so replaceable, but were it not for Cam, our running game would be total garbage with the likes of a Cameron Artis-Payne, Fozzy Whitaker, or even J-Stew on the bike on the sidelines. I would love to see CMC AND a cheaper power back in the backfield. Especially with a QB that can run and a staff that wants to get away from 1985 football. Our ground game would be insane.

Are we really trying to compare the worth of a QB to a franchise to a running back? The NFL could not be more obviously QB centric in a time where guys like Mahomes are lighting it up out of the gate

Do you want the highest paid RB in the league or do you want a franchise quarterback?
