McCaffrey isn't like any other back in the league so comparing him to Gurley or anyone else is an insult. Only three guys have done what he did and none in year 3. He has shown to be more durable than any other back and has carried the offense already. Given he is only 24 he has likely 6 or 7 years left at a very high level. The problem is that  trades these days for veteran players don't net you enough to make it worthwhile. He was already a high 1. To get enough value given how he has outperformed all expectations would require 2 ones because we would have to replace his 1300 yards as a running back and 1000 yards as a player with 2 guys.  Nope that is just crazy talk. No one is thinking trade him but folks here.

Yeah, cause we are force feeding him that ball the whole game.  That's why he's putting up ridiculous numbers.  He's the equivalent of James Harden or Russell Westbrook.  The guys are absolute beasts but individual stat fests don't win championships.  We would trade him for draft picks not other players.  Look, I get it, it's not going to happen but you are being short sighted if you think my argument makes no sense at all.  It makes a lot of sense on paper.

If we don't fix our o and d lines it doesn't matter if CMC has half a dozen years like this one.  This team will not be going to the superbowl.  He could be traded for players/and or picks.

It's actually going to be really sad to see both CMC and Barkley's careers wasted on two rebuilding teams.

If you don't want to watch great players fail to ever when a Championship because they didn't arrive at the right time, or had bad luck, then you need to stop watching sports.

Do you want  to build a team and consistently contend for championships or do you want to watch your favorite running back set records.  That is what it comes down to.

Call me crazy if you'd like, but I tend to believe that we can do both, and getting one or two extra draft picks isn't going to instantly turn this team around. So, I can't see not keeping him, while continuously filling the weak spots on the roster over the next couple of years with upgrades. If we extend him now, it most likely will be around five years, so we can decide once that runs out if we move on or not. If we don't extend, we let him finish his rookie contract, picking up the fifth year option, and if need be, franchise tag him at that point.

This all comes down to if you feel his ceiling is higher than it already is. If so, the extension makes sense now before he truly blows up even bigger. If not, there's no sense in an extension now, and we should just wait and see, while he finishes his rookie contract. Trading him shouldn't even be an option right now, as there is absolutely zero value in trading our current #1 source of offense for a few potential players that may or may not help us become better in the long run.

TLDR: It all comes down to how much the coaches and front office believe he could be better than he is right now, in their decision on giving an extension or not.

If we were force feeding him the ball unnecessarily then every team would focus on him and his yards per carry and yards per reception would go down. But he averages almost 5 yards a rush and almost 9 yards a catch who is very high. So even when we force feed him he still performs at a high level so why not feed him the ball.

Thanks for the life tip dad. I’m a rabid Panthers and Penn St fan so I know what it means to be a loyal fan through thick and thin. Those allegiances will never change. I mainly meant that average Joe guys like James White can win multiple championships and guys like CMC and Barkley and spend their best years on a rebuild and may never win a championship. Fact of life, not just sports.

No it doesn't. CMCis a vital part of the team and will do more than his share to make this a consistent winner. Or do you really want us to believe that he was a significant cause for why we struggled the last 2 years???? Glad you aren't the GM

Dude you are missing the point. There is no doubt that CMC makes us a better team, arguably much better.  But is is worth the price  tag for his position? Based on comps in the league currently, I’d say arguably not
