Newton can take an early physical for interested teams

Why is this so difficult?

We will not be competing for the playoffs next year.  After that, Cam's contract is up.  If you want to get something for him, you have to trade him now.  It serves no purpose to roll him out there for a year during a rebuild (other than making the cam fanboys happy) then watching him walk.

We have a new offensive coordinator.  He runs a system where Joe Burrow is the ideal candidate.  For those who watched him play, does Cam have the same skill set?  Is there evidence Cam can run the offense Brady wants to run?  Does it make sense to force a read-option QB that has been battered for 8 years and has 1 year left on his contract into a new offense scheme?

At some point the Camboys will need to come to terms with reality.  Feel free to follow Cam out the door.  The panthers will be fine in 2-3 years.

I don't think the market for Cam will heat up until other guys like Brady and Rivers sign their deals.

lol once Brady/Rivers/Bridgewater sign there aren't going to be many starting spots available especially when the Bengals/Dolphins draft Burrow/Tua.

The best time to trade Cam is now before all the open QB spots get filled in FA.

If you cant do better than a 3rd for Cam, it makes more sense to keep him and bet on him playing well.  Then you can trade him for a better pick if thats the plan.  A 3rd for Cam is pointless.  Before someone brings up the 19 mil thing, saving 19 mil on a rebuild year is dumb.

It takes 2 to trade. You can't force teams to take Cam. If Brady, Bridgewater and Rivers are higher on a team's wish list, then the trade talks will not be prioritized.

Here is what I would do.

Oakland is moving to Vegas.  They need a big name at QB to get the new Era started right.  Carr is not the answer.  Gruden likes Cam and his toughness.

Trade Cam to Vegas along with our second, for The 19th and 80th pick plus next year's first (probably a mid-20s pick).  This puts Cam's value right around the 11th pick in the draft.

This gives us two first rounders to shore up the lines, and an extra pick next year to move up and get the QB we like.  If Cam is healthy, Vegas gets an experienced and tough QB to make a playoff run. Win / Win for everyone.

Fwiw, the Panthers offer something that those qbs dont, which is one year locked in at 19 mil.  Hell, bridgewater is expected to command 20 a year and feasibly he will be looking long term.

for some reason folks believe that there is a mechanism that guarantees that we "get the QB we like" in an upcoming draft.  May I remind you that there are a few other NFL teams that might also be interested in a QB that they might like.....
