Matt Rhule on Peter King podcast

To me, the bottom line is that anyone who has watched Cam's whole career and not gotten the sense that true greatness was within him  . . . I just don't know what to tell you.  Cam has always had the potential to be HoF caliber.

If Brady / Rhule can *finally* put that potential on display as actual greatness season over season I'm all behind it.  Cam can play another 4-5 years easily if we can simply stop getting him killed.

All that said, Cam is going to have to take to the system.  Cam has struggled on short passing in the past.  Yes, he improved the last couple years, but a system like Brady runs places an emphasis on very precise timing and placement.  We have the skill players around Cam to make a quick RPO / RAC heavy system work.

This could be the most amazing OC / QB pairing we've ever seen in Carolina.  I hope we get to see it on full display.

Like he said in his opening press conference...he wants guys that WANT to be here.  And there is no better definition of a guy that wants to be here, then Cam Newton.  Guy is extremely passionate about the Panthers and wanting to take them all the way.  You just can't quit on a guy like that.  Can't wait for the season to start.

I apologize for being dense on the public dime, but I need things spelled out for me sometimes and hope you don't mind.

Is all that above Rhule utterings, and none of it your words/comments?

If it all did come from Rhule, I find it encouraging.

Thanks.

yeah everything I wrote was basically quotes or paraphrased from Rhule's comments

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
