Wow.  I guess nobody is buying what cam is selling in those videos.

His shoulder must be shot.

I don't know if his shoulder is shot, but that's the problem. Nobody else does either. I strongly suspect anyone who does sign him is going to do so on a "prove it" contract.

The "little commitment" that he talked about wanting probably isn't going to happen. His best bet for that might have been the Panthers given his history here, but they've already answered "no".

To a degree.

I think teams are turned off by Cam being Cam. Being in the DC area, I don't hear the local rhetoric in regards to Cam. In the past couple of days, the local radio station has been discussing Cam coming to DC. It actually would make sense if he's healthy. Shortened OTAs, Cam already knows the offense, and Haskins is not the best at preparation (couple that with learning a new offense).

The point is most callers that were against him coming noted factors that had nothing to do with his onfield play. They actually admitted he be the best QB they've had in some time, but the other stuff would hurt the team more than the onfield play helped - perceptions.

Serious question, but why hasnt he had a physical yet?  I mean damn his shoulder should be okay by now.  Cant they at least work him out throwing the ball?  Something seems off from the Rapaport tweet early on to Jourdan saying he was going to pass a physical to now.  There is more to the story here.

Rodrigue's sources were telling her that Newton could pass a physical as soon as March. Rappaport said June at the earliest. Obviously, you've gotta figure their reports were coming from different people.

The Panthers public position all along was that nothing could be decided until they knew whether he was healthy or not, so either they believe he's healthy now or that whole idea has been tossed out the window. Heck, maybe it never really mattered.

Someone suggested that the long, drawn out "is he healthy or not" talk from the Panthers might ultimately have hurt Newton's position. There's an argument to be made for that.

I dont think any of what Tepper said, Rhule said etc hurt his value after I read the tweet about the bears.  Cam is not going to be able to hide the fact if he isnt healthy and it seems like conventional wisdom around the league is that he is not.  So their options were limited and it looks like Rhule didnt want to risk having to trot out allen/wg in the event they rolled with cam only to find out he is done.   I think with Teddy we are still going to lose games but at least we can look like an NFL team in the process.

I think physicals aren't allowed right now anyway.

I heard physicals from 3rd part docs are allowed. So are conditional signings. Example: Your contract will be void if you don’t pass a physical after these restrictions are lifted.

They're allowed if teams and players can agree on an independent physician (that's what Brady's doing).

A physical would probably be a good thing for Newton right now...if he passed it.

While facing Tom Brady twice a year doesn't sound great, if the Bucs hadn't signed him I'd say there's a pretty fair chance Cam Newton might've ended up a Buc.  which wouldn't have been fun for a lot of reasons.  Since they had to pull the trigger on Teddy, killed trade leverage and Cam being released is seeming more likely by the hour.  Faced with the prospect of missing out on Brady and Teddy with Winston on the porch with his arms folded tapping his foot, Cam Newton could've been Bruce Arians' guy.  There's your silver lining to Tom Brady being a Buc...

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
