Dynamic Duo

Carolina can go in many directions in this years draft, one thing I was thinking is them moving back up into the 1st round.  A Trade with the Dolphins #26 seems feasible.  Having a 2nd player with a 5th year option while you are rebuilding the team could be quite enticing.  If carolina was to trade up and take #26.  What combination of picks in the first round would be your dynamic duo and give the 2020 draft trophy to Carolina on their way to the Superb Owl?

2020 season ain’t happening so it will be a redshirt year for all players drafted.

Honestly, this would not be surprising. If it does end up happening, I'd be willing to be it'll be without fans present.

If there's any measure of social distancing protocols required this fall, I don't see how we can play football. Even without fans and stripped down to the absolute bare essential people, you're still going to have well over 100 people present to conduct a football game. Probably close to 200.

Epenesa DE (yeah, he can fall this far), Gladney CB, Jaylon Johnson CB, Gross-Matos DE, Mims WR, Aiyuk WR are names that come to mind.

Derrick Brown + Gross-Matos could be an interesting DL combo platter.

Maybe Hamler...but he shouldn't make it past the Eagles.

I think you derailed your own thread when you introduced the premise of this proposed "dynamic duo" leading us to a Super Bowl trophy this year. LOL!

Read it again.

I wouldn’t trade up draft picks back into the first. If anything involving only picks I’d trade down or into next year (I.e our 2nd this year for a team’s 1st and 3rd next year).

I would, however, trade roster players for picks this year if the value is right. What if the Dolphins would give us pick 18 for say Samuel/Donte and KK? I’d probably do that.

Stop being an arse.

To the subject of the thread, in running through scenarios, I think there will be equal talent available at 38 so it will take us falling in love with a specific prospect to do so.  Though do stand by names mentioned.

June 1st is going to be a big date for all of this. If we are still battling this at that date, I’d say college football will be cancelled. At the very least postponed until conference play. NFL season will undoubtedly be in danger by then as well.

Next year's NFL draft would be really interesting if it goes down that way. Drafting rookies without having a season of college football to evaluate plus having this year's rookie class having still never played a down of NFL football.

    • A winning record would be nice, but I still have us winning around the 6 to 8 game mark. Realistically we should beat the Jets and Saints, that gets us to 5 wins. After that, we have to face a lot of potential play off teams and our divisional opponents. I think we’ll win 1 or 2 of those games to take us to 6 or 7 wins, perhaps 8 wins if we can spring a further surprise.  Is that enough progress for head coach and QB? I’m not sure, it will depend on performances and output. That said, it’s nice to be back in a position where we are thinking about the play offs.
    • I would tend to agree about not falling into the trap and paying a below average QB, but sometimes situations can “force” a team to pay that QB. For example, if we play ourselves into a 9-8 like record, then what options will we have in the draft? Or do we avoid the draft and trade for or sign someone in free agency?  I’m not convinced by the 2026 QB draft class. There’s some intriguing prospects but no one that really screams “draft me”. I’m not sure we’ve got anyone really that stands out as a trade candidate or free agent signing. So although we might not want to commit a big money contract to Young, him playing well and showing progress might force the team’s hand.
    • Realistically we would be looking at no more than a mid round pick for Dowdle or Chuba. Are we really that desperate for a mid round pick? Not really. I would much prefer us utilise the two RBs in a 1-2 punch similar to how we used D-Will and Stewart. After all, Bryce is not Drew Brees. He won’t throw for 300+ yards and carry the team consistently as a passer. So having a strong running game with a 1-2 punch will be beneficial to him, and it will also be beneficial to the RBs because we can spell them and not overwork them.
