Don't get your hopes too high. A small school rookie playing on what is likely to be a pretty poor overall defense... eh, it's gonna be ugly at times.

Hopes should be high for this defense for another 2 years.  With that many rookies and other young players this defense will be exposed.
Bit I  am ok with that.  The product will be fun to watch next year with a bunch of shootouts typically ending in a loss.  And that puts us in range for  a franchise QB and another good draft.  Year 3 is when I expect to see some resemblance of a playoff team.
I have enjoyed the ride of the new regime so far.

Kevin Byard had a pretty good season for the Titans as a rookie. Even James Bradberry played well for us as a rookie. Darius Leonard won DROY for a bad Colts defense from South Carolina State and is now remaking that defense into a good one. If you can play football, you can play football. Chinn can. I think that our defense will actually be better than the offense.

I hope and honestly think that this year's draft may have built the foundation of what could be a very good NFL defense in 2-3 years, I just think there's going to be a major learning curve for both the players and the staff this coming season. Just enjoy the flashes.

If the draft is as good as I think it was the floor by mid season should be middle of the pack and the ability to actually stop the run will make us better then last year's D off the bat. I've never seen such a poor run D, such a sad defense for Keek to go out on... Man I wish he would have stayed one more year.....

In draft recaps, Chinn is constantly referred to as a "poor man's Simmon", "Simmon's-like" player or my favorite "store brand Simmons".  My prediction is by the time their rookies deals are about up, Simmons will be compared to Chinn. Simmons will be the  'magic marshmallow puffs' and Chinn will be our Lucky Charms.

Which should work out perfect. Gives us a high pick next year in that deep QB class and we will have our rookie QB with the foundation of a solid defense the following year.

You again with the hyperbole?

Well, Daniel Jeremiah thinks Chinn is the "steal of the draft!" And I'm good that we went and got our guy!

Our draft could possibly be awash in "steals of the draft" after all is said and done! We have some good candidates in round two, five, and maybe even six!

It was a very good draft on paper!

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
