dumb move for the Saints unless they're not sold on Taysom Hill, yet considering they just gave him a contract just reduces this to a dumb move that nothing good will come out of

No it's not dumb.  If they can turn him into anything they can either keep, trade him or let him walk for a comp pick.  It's called developing players.  Something this team struggles with.

Well, technically its only called developing players if they actualy turn him into a better player.  Otherwise, its just cap space they could have spent on someone else.  .

Are you assuming he's actually going to get any action this season for the Saints?  Otherwise how is he supposedly going to be showcasing this development for other teams to be trading for him or giving him some big contract after the year?

Since when has cap space mattered in New Orleans? Their cap next year is something like -$10 mil. Never seems to matter.

It's not my problem to figure out.   Whether they do or not I really don't care.  It's the strategy that I agree with.  So far this team has been reluctant to develope or sign a QB that is a threat to take over for fear of hurting the starters feelings.   They are reactive and not proactive.  Always has been and it looks like they always will be.

So if they end up paying Jameis $10-15 million to sit on the bench and not take a single snap and let him go to FA next year for nothing, was it still a genius move? If we paid $10-15 million for a FA to contribute nothing, I know the majority of this board would talk about how stupid our FO was...I know, cause we’ve done that several times in the past.

We hired Rhule whose strength is development and we have 3 young talented QBs to develop, so it seems like a weird thing to complain about. What did you want us to do at the QB position this year?

I don't give a flying fug if the Saints waste their damn money.   None of those QBs on our roster have shown anything to make me think they are the future at the position much less any threat to each other.  There is no competition, just hopes and wishes.   Oh I forgot it's sunshine and rainbows all around and these guys are future all pros whether they win or not.  You guys are hilarious.

Don’t get pissy...I’m asking you questions and you’re dodging all of them cause it seems like you’re rage-posting instead of actually thinking anything through.  What would you have done this season at QB?

I wouldn't have waited until this season to find my next QB.  Does that answer your question?  Maybe draft more than one QB since 2011?     You know be proactive.    Besides, it's not my job to figure it out for these "professionals".

Good point.  Although that may be why it has only been announced that they "have agreed to terms" and not actually signed the contract?

I was actually starting to think that this approach was the saints skirting league rules and trying to take Winston off the market while simultaneously trying to fit him under the cap.

Also, any actual signing before June 1 will affect comp picks so I am sure the saints aren't pushing the matter.  But at the same time they reap the benefits of taking him off the market.  I wish some other team (not mine) would push this and try to top the saints offer.

Gronk, Teddy, Tom, etc....

....tons of players have been signed sealed & delivered during free agency --- Cam and any interested team/s have all the same resources available to them as all the rest of those guys.

    • Welp, he just joined Parsons in Green Bay.
    • That was always the fear, expectation, concern, etc, I had.  Someone showed a still shot from his pick last game and said it showed that the defender closed 3 yards on that ball in the last portion of its flight. I forget the number. 10 yards I think it said but that sounds extreme.  When guys are open by a step, any slowing down to wait for the ball lets the defender back into the play. That sort of stuff makes the margins so small… these NFL CBs are not slow.   It is a league that highly values foot speed; the 40 times and drill times are scrutinized down to the hundredth of a second when evaluating these players on both sides of the passing game. Receivers and defenders both.   My thing with his arm strength (or anyone’s) was always “why do you want to do that? Plus pay extra picks to put yourself in that situation?”. Asking for trouble.     I wish there was a way to measure velocity on the back half of a throw compared to when it left the hand. Or really get accurate reading of the flight time of a ball from the near hash to the sideline, 10 yards down the field. Because teams could use that info. I have always seen this as being a disadvantage with Bryce but it is beyond my ability to quantify it.   I think it would show what that arm strength is really about, a lot more than just measuring how much air can you put under it so it will fly as far as possible.
