I wish we would have signed Bradberry this offseason. The contract that he signed with the Giants was not that bad. We would be in much better shape right now in the secondary

I would've preferred retaining Bradberry over Shaq. It's a lot easier to find good LBs than it is to find good CBs.

We were above middle of the pack in average net yards per attempt. We were among the league leaders in INTs.

The run D was absolutely abysmal, but for the most part the secondary wasn't.

We were tied for 20th in the league in terms of pass attempts against us. I was honestly surprised we weren't a lot lower considering you could just line up and run it down our throats at will... and mike and sam for that matter

Especially first part of the season perhaps we were still living off past rep, especially Luke's rep as a great MLB and teams game plans vs us leaned more heavily on throwing than they needed to. Also the first half of the season we were still competitive and teams weren't always in a position with a commanding lead to just run at us at will.

Either way, the eyeball test for me last year did not peg our secondary as above average. Bradberry could keep #1's mostly under control, but it felt like team's second and third options were open far more often than not.

Our pass defense was feast or famine last year.  Interception wise, we feasted against Tampa, Arizona, and Tennessee (a team that inexplicably chose to throw against us even though Henry was abusing us when he did run the ball).  We got 9 of our 14 int's against those three teams.  Sadly, we probably wont be playing against Jameis this year.  But teams threw the ball less than average against us.  When you average allowing 5 plus yards per run attempt, most teams don't feel the need to pass the ball.

On the other hand, our run d was consistently bad all year.

If we go into the season with this secondary in our division, teams are going to be putting up video game scores on us. Which is okay by me to be honest. I was never under the delusion that we have anything other than draft position to play for this season.

I fear that you are right, but I am hoping that they have a system in place that will be pleasantly surprising.  I worry a bit about DL and nobody else seems to be.  I worry a lot about the OL-not addressing C might cost us a lot.  And then there is the MLB spot.   I am not confident at all--but it will be a good indication of how good our  coaching staff is.

I don't think we'll have a top ranked DL by any means, but at least we're trying. We spent 1st, 2nd, and 6th round picks on the DL in the draft this year and signed a lower mid-level FA. You can only do so much in a single off-season.

I'm definitely concerned about our interior OL. We could be among the league's worst there.

Whitehead is a good tackler, but he's useless in coverage. I think he'll be a two down backer for us and could see his role reduce from that over the course of the season.

I'm glad he's gone. He wasn't worth what he was asking. Moreover, there is an argument to be made that Shaq is a better LB than Bradberry is a CB. We're likely to find out the truth of the matter this season.

He was ideal for us because he matches up very well against the specific type of WR that just so happens to be the elite #1 WR on all three of our division rivals.

Your second argument really isn't valid. It's definitely much harder to find quality CBs than it is to find quality non-pass rushing LBs. Either way, I certainly wouldn't make that argument based on what I've seen from both of them over the past few years.

I hope Shaq proves to be an elite LB, I'm just not sure that even the Panthers believe it's going to happen. That contract is structured so that we can cut bait after two years.

He doesn't need to be elite.  Better than average would be good enough.

You don't drop superior players to keep less superior players. Bradberry was never as good as some in the Huddle thought he was. And, to be honest, he was downright abysmal at times!
