Joel Klatt: Justin Fields is just as dangerous as Trevor Lawrence for the NFL.

Trevor or Fields would both be reasons to be excited about our future.

Like I stated in the thread last night, when someone stated they were "tired" of hearing about Lawrence.

We have to find the light at the end of the shitty tunnel, like Shawshank Redemption. JF or TL are those lights.

I just dont know about fields.  Seems like it may be the system

Every QB is a system QB. Every QB has talents that play well in certain systems and not as well in others.

Labelling QBs that play well in short passing systems as "system QBs" and not QBs that play well in power run/deep ball systems is pretty dumb. Troy Aikman would be as poor a fit for the current Saints' offense as Brees would be for the 90s Cowboys' offense.

He has really high praise for TL as well.

While admittedly not a professional scout by any stretch, I’ve been around the game since 6.
Trey Lance checks all of the boxes on film. Playing QB in the NFL involves more than physical play, but he has all of the tools and intangibles.

well, I still prefer Lawerence.  The Ohio St thing does sit in the back of my mind.

But if you watch Fields in college and Haskins in college.  They are very different IMO.  Can't get caught up w/ Haskins' stats.   He had great stats.  Probably better than Fields.  Fields is a better QB in college than Haskins IMO.  Haskins had warning signs IMO you don't see with Fields.

I have him as a close #2 to Lawrence. I really like Fields but I am almost pretty scared of any Ohio St. QB at this point.

Haskins definitely had more of the look of a system QB than Fields did, IMO.

    • It’ll be interesting to see how the board falls I completely agree with you on TE for us The safety from Oregon would be the cherry on top for Evero’s defense/scheme.  If a OL’men is there that you love it would be very hard to pass up. This fan base seems to just see Walker as a stop gap but I wouldn’t be so sure. He’s the same age as Ekwonu. He’s had a much more impressive career arc/progression than Icky has. He’s the better pass protector. As far as I see it if Walker has a good year I’d bring him back over Icky. Ekwonu isn’t some elite franchise LT. Playing next to Lewis is going to be great for Walker much like it has been for Icky. We definitely need to get younger/cheaper on the OL though so for this reason alone it’s still top of my list come round 1 if board falls this way  Could also use another corner with Mike Jackson’s deal up after this season and needing a nickel but Corey Thornton looked really good in that role in the limited time we got to see him. However he’s coming off an achillies injury and you never know with those.  Then as mentioned above we do still have a need at WR. As far as “weapons” go it’s kind of a 2 man show with Tmac and Coker and neither is a burner. If Jordan Tyson is there at 19 and we can have a young WR group locked up for cheap that’s a huge advantage cap wise  And don’t forget linebacker. That clip in Devin’s Lloyd blueprint they used from Evero saying they need more intelligence there could’ve been left out for Wallace’s sake but it’s true. Wallace is lost in coverage. Pair a smart linebacker with Lloyd and that’s a group with Wallace and Cherelus being depth
    • The fact that this is even a discussion is a testament of the level of front office badassery that's going on.
    • Not always. LT was for the Giants. So was Ray Lewis. Von Miller was moreso than Manning his final year in the season that shall not be named. It's usually the QB, but not always.
