Cutting Ryan this year will cost ATL around 50M in dead cap space. You have him until 22....unless you pull a trade and sign. Will be hard to do with the number of QBs coming out this year. I would definitely be concerned about how much has been invested in and around him vs his play at this point.

As an aside I give you props for not trolling and coming on here win or lose. It has been amazing how many fair weather ATL trolls wont come on here to take their medicine when you are having a bad year after showing up to talk junk after wins.

Yeah no chance he’s gone before ‘22 and even that is far from a sure thing. I might be wrong, but I’m pretty sure dead money is prohibitive even in a trade scenario.

Given the dumpster fire currently going on (and thus upside later) + the fact that he’s still within ~5 points of his career QB rating, I’m cautiously optimistic he can bounce back from the brutal start. He’s also always been bottom ~quartile in terms of physical gifts, so not as worried about that sort of decline vs., say, Cam.

Ryan is 16-9 against the Panthers, with a ~96 passing rating – maybe he should have played with the shaft a bit more?

Lawrence would undoubtedly be a boon , but 1) the Jets are realistically way worse and 2) our cap is such that (due to Ryan and Jones' contracts & dead money) we wouldn't be able to capitalize on the advantage that is paying a starting QB ~$5mm a year during his rookie contract. It'd probably make the most sense to deal the hypothetical #1 pick for a huge haul, unless we truly think Lawrence is a ~Mahomes-level talent.

Ryan is going to be sucking y'all dry until at least 2022. It will still cost you 27 million in dead cap if you dump him then. If you went for Lawrence he would be sitting on the bench for years or you will have a backup in Ryan counting 40 million against the cap in 2021 and 41 million in 2022.  Y'all are stuck with Ryan no matter what. What a bad contract.

Downside has been garbage OLs (sacked 100 times over past 2 seasons) and defenses that can’t stop a nosebleed that force playing from behind. Always a double-edged sword in the salary cap era.

What probably got Dimitroff canned as much as anything is the draft pick investment on the OL vs the return.

Right, which is why in the post you quoted I said I’d advocate moving out of the #1 pick. He’s going to be here till ‘23, though I’m a bit more hopeful the past ~5 games (which have been subpar but not awful) are a blip, not a new trend.

Bingo. That and the secondary. Only players of his on the line(s) and backfield that can play, can’t stay healthy.

True, its always give and take...unless you get very lucky. I know they tried with everything last year to fix the OL, spent heavy in FA and early draft picks invested on OL. Plus since Abraham leftd they've been looking for another pass rusher, I dont think its Flower. Id do the opposite, draft OL/DL and sign WR,RB,LB,CB etc.
