Brees makes a lot of the same types of throws Teddy does because it wins football games. Tackling has become a lost art and the short to intermediate chain moving throws are difference makers.
 

They’re also the ones that allow you to chew up a ton of clock which we have done the last 2 weeks on crucial 4th quarter drives.
 

As you all sat there gawking over Herbert launching a couple completions you missed all the important intermediate throws he needed to make but didn’t. 

If you physically cannot throw a deep ball then that’s a problem but Teddy has shown that he can which allows for this offense to flow nicely. It’s becoming more and more obvious that father time is catching up with Drew, which is causing problems for their offense

And for the record, I haven't made any comments about Teddy's QB play.  I think he is a playing average ball.  Nothing special, nothing bad.   

 So I guess that's Drew.  He is still incredibly accurate inside 10 yards.  Cannot throw it deep with any consistency.  No velocity on throws outside the hash.  More interceptions than typical.  It's not awful but it's nothing special.     He is not a good QB anymore.  

  

I'd say he is still a good QB but he is no longer a great QB. As many have stated, his physical skills are clery diminished. 

He still hasn't hit a Peyton Manning type drop off, where he is the worst starting QB in the NFL.

all true but the point here is that by all accounts brees can no longer consistently hit the deep ball, which is why we seldom see it. he is part of the reason they're not doing so great.

Yep I agree. Payton has started to get cute the last year or two on some big 3rd down calls by bringing in Hill and as much as they talk up Hill it’s obvious they’re doing this because of Drew.

When you get a sec, you should go back and quickly run through all the offensive snaps of the Saints SB win. Their offense really hasn’t changed much. It’s why I’m a big supporter of what we’re doing with Teddy. Drew’s arm has been on the decline for some time now but they’re still managing to win a lot of games because of his overall IQ as a QB. 
 

Our offense now is what we’d always complain about it not being while Shula was here.

He nailed a 40+ yarder for a TD during this game. As far as not doing so great they are 3-2, currently in the lead for the division and they are 6th in the NFL in scoring. They are also the 7th worst team at giving up points this year but Brees doesn’t play defense.

but when your numbers are pretty comparable to Gardner Minshew....and you hit a deep ball for the first time in 3 years.....it is safe to say the mighty have fallen.   Brees can still win games.   No one is saying he is now Jimmy Clausen.

I like Minshew. I think the organization has done everything in their power to not support him. However, as pointed out already, this thread is about how Brees is trash now. Apparently he can’t complete a deep ball anymore but the last three years he’s still thrown for great td to int numbers despite the defense knowing they don’t have to defend him deep. His numbers this year are very similar to Teddys numbers who most here are loving. And Brees has done this while his coach tries to get cute with the backup QB who has killed more drives than helped and he hasn’t had Thomas for all but one game. Even still their offense is 6th in scoring and he’s at a 3:1 TD to INT. 
Sure he isn’t Brees from 5 years ago but he’s still a 8 yards average, 70% completions, 3:1 QB. Which is far from what this thread has tried to claim. And he’s probably my least favorite QB in the NFL.

Good news guys.  As bad as Brees looks now, he will look much worse in December and January, as per usual.  So Saints might even miss the playoffs.
