Often times teams say they are releasing someone but until 4 PM when the release actually processes they can be traded instead and a team that doesn’t think they can get the player through waivers or the open market(like us when faced against SB contenders) can come in offer a late round pick for the player.

He was disgruntled for not starting. If he had been fine with it they would surely have been happy to keep him for depth.

In a season where you could stash the guy on a very temporary IR against the possibility of a Covid hit to your line, why would you just up and cut the guy.

As a vet with more than 4 years and being before the trade deadline he is a free agent.
