Bills release an experienced guard

He just signed a 3 year, $15M deal this offseason which makes it extra weird. That’s market value for a guy like him so he’s not overpaid or anything.

If we traded for him it would be like $3M for the rest of the year and $5M each of the next two. He’s not cheap but that is very reasonable.

Why would anyone trade for him if he has been released?  Who you going to trade with, Goodell?

Often times teams say they are releasing someone but until 4 PM when the release actually processes they can be traded instead and a team that doesn’t think they can get the player through waivers or the open market(like us when faced against SB contenders) can come in offer a late round pick for the player.

Brandon Beane says it's due to his being benched

Bills GM Brandon Beane says no one to blame for Spain cut

Quote

Bills General Manager Brandon Beane says the Bills’ coaching staff just decided to play Brian Winters ahead of Spain, who started every game last year, and it was hard to keep Spain if he wasn’t starting.

“It’s hard when you’re not a starter, in fairness to him,” Beane said, via the Buffalo News. “There’s no blame to go around. Quinton Spain’s a good guy, a good person. He didn’t see this. You never know how things are going to work out when you put a roster together. Every team’s a new team. Nothing happened. There’s no one thing like, this happened and the dam broke and all the water went out. It’s just, we decided at the end of the day, being today, that he would be happier having a chance to start. And so we just gave him that freedom and wish him nothing but the best.”

Spain hinted on Twitter that there was some discontent, writing, “If only they knew the real reason but I’m going to leave it at that,” but later deleting that tweet.

Injury is the only thing I've seen, but yeah it's always "buyer beware" on these things.

In a season where you could stash the guy on a very temporary IR against the possibility of a Covid hit to your line, why would you just up and cut the guy.

There's some faint wisps of smoke around this... somewhere there's got to be a fire.
