Pete Shrager from Good Morning Football chooses a Panther for NFL Rookie of the Year

says no one expected this game to matter before the season,

"I'm gonna put it right now, the Defensive Rookie of the Year is not anyone in Washington who was #2 overall, and it's not one of the star guys like Derrick Brown or even Isiah Simmons, the DROY is a guy named Jeremy Chinn.  Who?  Jeremy Chinn is my DROY because every week he is making plays.  He is on pace for 128 tackles and last week had his first interception.  He also had 5 tackles, 2 passes defended.  He's everywhere on the field, he's everything the Cardinals thought Isiah Simmons would be.  He's been unbelievable, and I think he steps and plays a huge role against the Saints.  Jeremy I see you, raise your game against the Saints."

From purely a statistical standpoint (since I'll admit I don't watch too many other teams since I canceled my cable), I think he's got some tough competition with Patrick Queen.  I don't hear Queen mentioned much in here, but some notable stats:

44 tackles (5 less than Chinn)

2 FF

2 FR (1 returned for a TD)

2 sacks

Queen doesn't seem to be doing great in coverage, with only 1 pass deflection and no picks, but he's been solid in the run game and he has some flashy stats to go along with the tackles, including a defensive TD.

Difference is that Ravens D is absolutely stacked. Chinn should be drawing a lot more attention from offensive coordinators than Queen has so far and that's why I find his stats a lot more impressive.

That brings up an interesting point...I wonder if Chinn being on a worse defense works in his favor or against him when it comes to DROY. I tend to agree with you that it is more impressive for Chinn to have this kind of success on a weaker defense, but I could also see them painting Queen as this “young leader of this Top 5 defense” or whatever. They’ll probably over-inflate his individual impact on their defensive unit as a whole.

    • Don't have to be miss cleo. His weakness are length, athleticism, creating his own shot, defense, finishing at the rim,  Strengths - shooting and IQ.   Likely won't work as non athletic shooters don't typically work.

    • I live in Indiana and took a trip that weekend to watch my two friend's teams play (Chiefs and Vikings) IN Minnesota when they were playing at a college field, I think TCF? Anyways, our plan was to watch the game (noon game) then do some shopping at the Mall of America, I wasn't planning on watching the Panthers play Seattle since I was out sight seeing and walking around after the noon game had ended. By the time we were walking back into the Mall the Panthers were down by 2 scores in the 4th or going into the 4th and we were all thirsty from walking around for 2.5 hours after the Vikings game so we decided to postpone shopping until after we ate. We found this nice little sports bar inside the mall that had the game on. Man, I'm so glad we skipped shopping because that was probably the most excited I've been in some time for a win. Beating Seattle in 2015 felt like the "monkey off the back" sort of feeling and I knew we had finally arrived as a team. The entire bar erupted when Cam hit Olsen for that walk off TD. Literally one of the greatest moments of my life. My friend wasn't so happy though lol, by the time the Panthers game ended ALL of the stores inside the mall had closed and he wasn't able to get any souvenirs. It was his first time watching a Vikings game live and making a trip like that so he was legit upset lol. I on the other hand couldn't have been happier.
