Rhule: I Thought He [Tahir Whitehead] Played Well."

Agreed.  Problem is, he's been bad all year and has continued to play.  We're losing, in large part due to our defense.  His snaps have been limited and yet, when he's in, bad things continue to happen in his vicinity.  If we're losing anyway, why not play our young guys?  Coach speak is one thing, but to continue to trot the guy out there when he's doing the same things is where I start to see red flags.

Meh, the season is already a lost cause. We have a first time NFL DC and what I’m guessing is the youngest defense in the league. They probably want to keep what veterans they do have around till the end of the season. I do agree that it’s time to see Rhule taking snaps away from him. If he doesn’t, that is very discouraging.

This is part of being a HC. If you expect better out of a player, you tell him that, not the media. If he wants to single him out, he’ll do it in practice around his teammates. Not to reporters.

Ya think?  Quickest way to lose a locker room is to call a player out in the Media.  Especially nowadays with the Media.   They'll twist and turn to get every click they can.

This. Coaches would be proven to be bad business managers if they leak their internals to the media. Media will tear a franchise apart just for an extra hundred clicks. Can’t get mad at Rhule here. Honestly, I wouldn’t be mad at any coach for not giving the press any information. Bill B. Does a great job of this in NE. Arians... well he is an idiot. If the bucs don’t win a super bowl this year, he should be out

Arians is smart about it though.  He uses the media to motivate his guys when there's no real risk involved.  For example - he blamed Brady for their shortcomings through the media early in the season.  There's no real risk involved because Brady isn't going to be benched or cut, so its simply sending a message.  And he and Brady have a great relationship, so Brady gets it, even if he doesn't like it.  Then flashback to last year, Arians didn't really trash James despite his turnover issues all season, IIRC, until the final game of the year where he said something like, "if we get a real QB in here..."  Again, there was no risk involved.  And the times Arians has called other players out, he has established enough of a reputation with his locker room that they don't hold it against him bc they trust him and know he's fair.

Now, I agree...  Rhule is saying what he needs to say to the media.  It's his first year out of college, he's still building that trust with the players, so he has to handle things accordingly.  But again, all of that being said, he also has to be very discreet in his moves with players bc if you keep playing a guy who is stinking it up, the locker room will notice that too.

Took me less than 90 seconds of Google searching to see Arian bitch about the following:
1. His offensive line
2. Fans being homophobic
3. Jameis Winston being terrible
4. Tom Brady making bad decision (multiple times)
5. Blaming his team for the ass stomping from the saints in all phases of the game instead of his coaches
6. Antonio Brown and him bitching about catches (Brown has not bitched about catches, it was a threat from Bruce)

If you think there is a strategy to his ways.... half of that does not engage the media to motivate his guys... This is a really weird way to motivate your team. This is basically calling your staff horrible with the expectation they will want to get better because you are tyrant leader. It's a bad way to run a business, and therefore a bad way to run a football team. I expect him to be fired if they dont win the Super Bowl this year.

Well, good on you for searching it versus what I just remembered.  But, even considering all of that, he's never lost his locker rooms, and his players seem to love him.  Odds are, whatever he is complaining about to the media, he has already said to their faces.  Did you watch the All Or Nothing when he was with the Cardinals...  that's what my post was rooted in.  Everything he said, he meant it and followed up with it.  Actions and inaction have consequences.  I also remember Carson Palmer being quoted as saying something along the lines of "everybody thinks he's like your cool uncle, but he's not" and the gist of it was he was demanding.  His players know that, and if they can't deal with him, they'll play elsewhere.  But yeah, he has seemed to become a lot less patient since taking over in Tampa, so maybe he's just getting more ornery with age.

I personally am not worried about this as a problem going forward, dedication to the process requires consistent patient effort to improve, not public callouts. The idea is to establish calm control of the situation, with an eye on the long term goal, coach Rhule isn’t interested in a public jab match with an underperforming linebacker. this is a process and there will be growing pains, this year is like probing the city walls for cracks, the invasion begins once the preparation is completed. Besides Tahir isn’t a good player, but he doesn’t deserve public humiliation. He does try and as a member of the team, he is due that much respect, at least from my point of view. No matter how the man plays, it’s still a heavy toll on the body to play that position at this level. the man had the job of replacing a hall of famer on a team known for that position, a tall task but I believe his true role is to take pressure off the rookie that replaces him, the shadows of 59 58 and 51 hang heavy.
