NOTES:

One thing to remember regarding the guys with Panther connections, they all predate both David Tepper and Matt Rhule, so those connections might not mean as much as they used to. That includes Lake Dawson, who never worked with the Panthers but was interviewed and considered for the GM job during the cycle that ultimately saw Marty Hurney rehired.

As far as the Steelers, David Tepper definitely has a connection with those guys, but Matt Rhule doesn't. If Rhule is gonna have a hand in the search, that Steeler pipeline might dry up. Similarly with the Patriots, Tepper is known to be a big fan of the Patriots operation, but after this season some of the bloom may be off the rose.

Speaking of the Steelers, I have a hard time believing Kevin Colbert would take the long term GM job, but he doesn't necessarily have to. He could be hired on as a consultant to help get things organized. Again though, no connection with Rhule, who has stated before that he wants significant influence in "the program". Would he want someone like Colbert in a power position? Unknown.

In the end, the guys I take most seriously right now are the two with the most obvious connection to head coach Matt Rhule. Of those, my first choice would be Jeff Ireland because he has a much better resume than Pat Stewart, but Stewart is already in the building, so who knows?

We'll see...

lead story on NFL Now which just started on NFL Network, they talked about the statement that Tepper made and said it seems likely the new GM will have a relationship with Matt Rhule.

I have been thinking Pat Stewart, but I'm also starting to look more in the direction of Jeff Ireland.

Granted, that could be wishful thinking on my part. I'm trying to keep my emotions out of it.

Kevin Colbert. The report from a week ago that he was on the outs in Pittsburgh wasn't a coincidence. Tepper and Colbert already know this is happening. Probably gonna be the highest paid GM in the league by far.

If Tepper can get his guy I'm sure he will.  But how will that play out with Rhule?  I guess we will see if it's a "collaborative effort" won't we?

Rhule and Ireland are friends and have mutual respect, but sometimes personalities clash so hard to say.
