Panthers are close!

I don't know how I feel about the Hurney separation today, I think from a defensive side of things Marty has set the Panthers up pretty damn good for the future. Our rookies on defense this year has to be at the tops in the NFL team contribution wise, statistically wise, and individually. This team is young and set up pretty dang good for the next few years. We ALL know that we need a QB that is gunslinger "clutch".  We have WAY talented receivers. We can candy coat, fool ourselves and micro-examine all we want. The Panthers are a team that pushed the Chiefs his year... a team that has been in every game this season (for the most part). The crazy thing is... they have been sitting one of the most lethal weapons in the NFL all season which I think is a smart move... why do you think that is? The Panthers are one explosive LB, one more consistent edge rusher (which we may have), another strong DT, a good TE, some extra O-line help (always) and really, offensively the only other thing that the Panthers need is ONE clutch gene player as a captain on the offense (wishing well position). What do you get? A perennial playoff/championship team. All I'm saying is that a lot of good things are in place already, we just have to get lucky in one regard (and yes, there is a lot of luck involved).

Absolutely nothing wrong with Moton and we should already be negotiating in good faith with him......thank God Hurney is gone and maybe, just maybe we have started talking with his agent.

Agreed, just had no idea what that guy was talking about. We have 1 solid T that we need to keep.

Need to have:

QB, LT, CB

Teddy doesn’t have it and never will. Okung can’t stay healthy and Little lol. I believe in DJax but another solid cornah would be ideal.

Should have:

MLB, G

Carter is passable, an upgrade would be chill but it’s not a glaring need now that Whitehead ain’t starting. Both guards could be replaced, but they are passable if we need to keep em around.

Nice to have:

FS, TE, C, WR3, DT

Boston sucks but I’d prefer to address other areas of MAJOR liability first. TE could use actual talent, but if we stack WR’s we’re ok with marginal production. Palardis is slightly above average this year, overpaid but not a giant doofus like last year. With Samuel gone, we can prolly fill the slot role with a draft pick or low level FA. How’s our boy Omar doing? DT could use some bodies, but Kerr and Roy can be aight.

We’re in much better shape than people give us credit for. Upgrading from Teddy is a must or else all the team upgrades in the world won’t mean poo cuz 2gloves is showing out the best numbers of his career and this is it. Lmao.

This is all assuming that we tag Moton and let Samuel walk.

I pretty much agree with this. QB is obviously our top priority. LT is a big need after that. CB is big but I’d drop that to the next category with MLB. We need a good MLB and let Carter move to the outside and then I feel good about our LB corps even with Shaq.  The rest I have no problem with.

    • That is definitely the down side of all this--on paper, I would offer up a second rounder for him if he passed my interviews.  He has already gone through (seriously?) a treatment program for gambling addiction.  I just see him as a first round talent that we could get with a second rounder.  If I liked Bryce and felt good about paying him $50m per, I would not touch Sorsby.  If Bryce regresses or stays the same--he is going to expect to be paid.  Sorsby, in my view, has a better long-term future as an NFL QB.  He is big, mobile, has good arm strength, and makes wise decisions (on the field) with the football.  He is a great dual threat, RPO QB.   I think he is a perfect solution for the backup qb position and insurance for Bryce should he get injured or suck.  Pickett?  King?  yikes.
    • Hard to say--they are very unpredictable--this article came out last night---after our comments:  (ESPN)   How has the NFL approached NCAA players with gambling violations in the past? David Purdum, sports betting reporter: Quarterback Hunter Dekkers and wide receiver Kayshon Boutte were found to have committed gambling violations while playing college football, and both were allowed to pursue NFL careers. Dekkers was the projected starting quarterback at Iowa State but was ruled ineligible ahead of the 2023 season after an investigation found he had bet on at least one game involving the Cyclones (among other wagers that violated NCAA bylaws). The bet was just $15 on Iowa State to beat Oklahoma State in a 2021 game in which he did not play, but it led to the end of his Division I career. He played one season at Iowa Western Community College in 2024 before signing with the Saints as an undrafted free agent, and he spent last season on the practice squad. Boutte was arrested in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in January 2024 on charges of underage betting while at LSU. The arrest came roughly eight months after he had been drafted in Round 6 by the Patriots, and the charges were ultimately dropped. According to police, Boutte placed more than 8,900 wagers from April 2022 to May 2023, including betting on at least 17 college football games -- at least six of which involved LSU during that span. The NFL did not discipline Boutte.
    • He did himself more harm than good by engaging in this ridiculous legal battle. One it brought to light how much gambling he was actually doing and two it made him a very unlikable figure from a public perspective because he was challenging the perceived sanctity (lol) of college sports. Then to make things worse his lawyers convinced a very stupid and very gullible old boomer judge to agree with him. Now he’s a lightning rod entering the league and that’s not a good place to be.
