QB Hits Allowed By Team So Far

Our OL has been better in pass pro than run blocking so this isn't too surprising. Figured we'd be 10-20 range, 8 definitely better than I'd have thought but we could still use several upgrades on the line. Also, you need to take into account what offensive systems teams are running and how many times teams drop back to pass which definitely affects these numbers. Our system is meant to get the ball out of the QB's hand faster so that helps our numbers out here.

I mean clearly these numbers just show that Bridgewater checks down before he gets hit.

The Oline is teeeeeeeeerrible.

Teddy is 10th in the NFL in Time To Throw(another NFL Next Gen stat). He does not hold on to the ball long.

Can you see if Greg Little is the highest ranked panther for run blocking? I saw on rotoworld, he was and still can not believe it.

And people keep saying teddy has a quick release and gets the ball out early, I have no idea what games they’re watching. Teddy piddles around back there for eons staring down his first read half the time. Sometimes they’re quick plays and the ball comes out early but often he’s also SO SLOW to make his decisions. He’s been late on his throws many times a game, such as when he was late on that throw to Anderson in the red zone on Saturday. Sometimes I think people are just parroting what they’ve heard the media say about him instead of watching and making up their own kinds.

TB release time is 2.6. There are only 5 starting QBs that are faster, and they all have better ranked olines, really only 3 with the same sample size who have a quicker release. Yes 10th if we count some second stringers coming in playing vanilla and QBs who played a few games then got injured etc.

No, I’m always dubious of these “advanced analytics”. Especially pff. They’re notoriously bad. It’s entirely possible these are legit and they were middle of the road compared to the rest of the NFL this year. For one, sacks in general seem way down. That graphic about the NFC pro bowl DEs and how Burns is leading with just 8 was surprising. But I also know that if you were comparing the last ten Panthers offensive lines, this year’s would be in the top half. We’ve had some truly putrid OLs lately.

This years RT is top half, but if you go by the past 10 years every position averages worse this year, except Oher for his one year at LT. If you take out the years of Gross and Kalil and Oher and Turners good years, and factor in release times and olines inability to play and entire game, this oline is slightly, and I mean ever so slightly better than the Chandler/Bell days.

Cam had a slightly longer release time, which makes sense since it was a Shula/Coryell system, and it that was also cut off the moment he ran. So in reality asking a line to block for 2.8 seconds and then another 1 second for Cam to scramble and take off is a huge ask. That will skew an oline ranking.

What also Skews this year is Moton balling out while the rest of the line does well for the first half, then falls apart the second and can’t finish games. This alone leaves you with an above average Oline but in reality it’s just an RT with 4 other players than can only play 30 minutes of football. You wouldn’t see this watching stats.
