Anybody remember when Colin Jones "asked" for his release?

I don't celebrate the guy failing to find work, but I do hope the days of "core special teamers" are over in Carolina. If you're a liability on the field on your side of the ball be it offense or defense, you need to be replaced. It's not hard to find special teams gunners. I would make an exception for a truly elite return man, but I would bet on Joe Brady finding a way to utilize him on offense.

Don't know. I'd imagine that with $7.8 million in career earnings (avg $870k yearly) at the age of 33, I'd say  "unemployment" probably isn't that bad. If he invested well, chances are he's managing a nice portfolio and may own or partly own a number of businesses (as many former NFL players do). He also keeps busy as a member of the board of directors for the Christian Outdoor Alliance.

Really, why make a personal attack on the guy? He did something that not a lot of folks do, he played professional football (those who even get invited to one training camp is just a sliver of those who dreamed of doing so in college, much less high school or even those going back to peewee Pop Warner leagues). The guy was in the NFL with an eight-year career (49ers and Panthers), mainly playing special teams but contributing as a rotational player and a starter, snagging 3 interceptions in his career (one for a TD) and played in a Super Bowl. He wasn't Ed Reed, but then again there's only one Ed Reed.

No reason to slight the man for his career. Honestly, there's no reason to slight any man for his career, in the NFL or outside of it.

Thanks for giving up 300 to Julio Colin! I was there you didn't do anything

I have had the same thought for years.  What the hell is a very special, Special teams specialist?  A kicker, a long snapper, and a punter.  After that, you should be depth that is competing for a job on offense or defense.

In fact, I sometimes wonder why we do not teach a backup LB or TE to be the long snapper.  Maybe that is dumb, but...

and you must've been the best player on your middle school team right?

Not even close, not even close.

Look, out of nowhere you decide it's time to bring up the end of Colin Jones' pro football career back last year to start crowing about it today. Why? Really. Why? It seems both an odd grudge to carry and a really old bone to pick. Unless you're either Haruki Nakamura or Sherrod Martin (the two guys he ended up replacing), there's not much of a reason to keep up some grudge.

Really, man? Colin Jones criticism is your best game? Surely there's some take on current players or maybe even some legacy players of actual note. Colin's play wasn't going to have him remembered much by the fanbase down the road, but just like the Karl Hanktons, Nick Goins, Raghib Ismael, or Jason Kyle ... he was a long-tenured Carolina Panther who mainly played on special teams and got a chance to contribute. He had a long career because he came to work and worked at it. He wasn't a gold jacket earner, a ring of honor guy, all pro or pro bowler. He was just one of the guys who went out there and played his heart out for OUR team. There's nothing wrong with that and honestly, a lot to cheer for.

Edit to add: If you had to look up some of those player's names, good. You'll learn something about this team and its history.

Delete your fuging account. You never played in the NFL so you're not allowed to have an opinion on anything here.

I see a Nick Goings reference (or Hankton for that matter), I pie.

    • Sanders, Beck and Ewers will be top 10 picks, if healthy.  I'm thinking probably two more will go mid-to-late first round.  Still, not the draft like this year.  Seen some of Leonard since he played in the ACC. Not being lazy because they were to the same school, but I think Leonard is a Daniel Jones type of QB.  Middling starter, but a quality backup.   I haven't seen enough of Ward yet.  He decided to stay in college when I was studying guys, so I didn't waste my time with his film.  in my very limited time on his tape, his comp would be a hybrid of Tyrod Taylor and DeShaun Watson (now, not 5 years ago). The rest of the mid round guys are a wide variety of styles and sizes.  You have the tall pocket guys (Howard and Ulagalelei).  There's the shorter and more mobile QBs with moxie (not running threats though) with Dart, McCall and Rogers.  I would definitely take one of these dudes in the mid-rounds. Again, I'm not sure if Milroe comes out.  Depending on his season, he could be a late first rounder.
    • Brooks was a good pick. He’s 20 years old and did not play a ton in college. He will bounce back from the injury.
