Predicted Outcome of Darnold Trade

  1. 1. Which is the most likely scenario?

    • Gets beaten out as starter(rookie/Teddy/etc)
      0
    • He is who we thought he was(same inconsistent player - bust)
    • Teddy 2.0(career highs in TD/Yards but still clearly a marginal NFL QB)
    • Jake 2.0(not an elite QB but shows he can make us competitive)
    • Adam Gase is QB Poison(Shows why he was the #3 overall pick - Franchise QB)

I think he has a career year with us but ultimately isn’t anything. He’s gonna continue to make boneheaded picks at maddening times. I said in the other thread that the coaches need to take all the pressure off of him. The Jets started him right away and put all the pressure on him to play hero ball and he failed spectacularly.

If we end up drafting Lance or fields if they fall all bets are off. I could see Fields starting right away and I could see Lance coming in towards the end of the season. One thing about both of those qbs is they protect the football. Sam Darnold does not.

They win every once in a blue moon, usually aided by an unbelievable defense.

Implicit to your remark is that you aren’t building a consistent winner with this approach

i honestly can’t even remember the last time a guts and glory team even won a super bowl in an isolated fashion

It doesn’t work anymore, and yet, it’s what we’re hoping to build here

Consistent game winner or consistent Super Bowl winner?

The former we can build with a "Jake type QB" the latter is HIGHLY unlikely.

I have no idea what we are hoping to build here. I am not sure anyone outside of the organization has any idea what we are doing at this point.

Really there has only been 1 consistent SB winner the las 20 years. Not likely to happen again

    • I'm looking at the schedule and I see a 10+win season easy.  I think Carolina goes undefeated in the division.  I also believe that the Bears, Bengals, Lions, Browns, Steelers are very winnable.  Revenge game with phillips and the eagles could be a win.  Honestly only 2 games I see as chalking up a L to off the bat is the Seahawks and Broncos.
    • I guess so. Don't think I was involved with previous discussions.  Tepper is one of the newest owners in the NFL. Dan is going into his 3rd season as a GM - ever. Dave is going into his 3rd season as a HC - ever. Before becoming a HC, he was an OC/playcaller for one season total. Idzik is about to go into his 1st year as a play caller - ever. WRs are rookies, sophomores and 3rd year guys - though the experienced 3rd year guys are XL and Coker (who has missed a ton of games). TEs are guys going into their 2nd and 3rd seasons, and Tommy Tremble - though Sanders has missed a ton of games. QB has played 3 years. Chuba is an experienced RB, but Brooks and Etienne have taken very little snaps at the position. O-line is more experienced vets with some talent - which is HUGE. Need them to stay healthy. I mean the offense is very young in every aspect except O-line. You see it differently?
