Predicted Outcome of Darnold Trade

  1. 1. Which is the most likely scenario?

    • Gets beaten out as starter(rookie/Teddy/etc)
      0
    • He is who we thought he was(same inconsistent player - bust)
    • Teddy 2.0(career highs in TD/Yards but still clearly a marginal NFL QB)
    • Jake 2.0(not an elite QB but shows he can make us competitive)
    • Adam Gase is QB Poison(Shows why he was the #3 overall pick - Franchise QB)

no, the original point was that you can’t build a consistent winner with these types of players anymore, you could highlight Denver as an isolated example, which I’ll say is fair, but the problem is that Denver moved on from that guy promptly whereas the panthers just made that guy the game be of their team

We didn't make him any more the "game be of" our team than we did Teddy. He is just as easily discarded.

I wasn't a big fan of the move but I understand it. When you are down to your fourth best option, that's how you get to Sam Darnold.

You just defined the word desperation

don’t shop hungry

If you’re going to shill for this then do it and let’s stop trying to play both sides

“jake type player” isn’t good enough to win Super Bowls anymore

IMO, 3 of the last 4 Super Bowls featured a Jake-ish QB.   Once you get to the game, it's just a crapshoot IMO.

I personally don't view Foles, Goff, JImmy G as better players than Jake.

Sides? Lol. WTF are you talking about? Yeah, it was basically a desperation move. I don't see why anyone would argue otherwise.

if you can’t see how the game has changed then maybe the team reddit is more for your caliber of poster

I don't think you actually watch football.

Yeah, if you expand to "Super Bowl Participating QB's" you get a higher percentage of less elite QB's. That said, if you look AFC/NFC championship game participating QB's, I think that substantially favors the elite QB's(IIRC).

I mean, obviously, you need a QB.

But you don't need Peyton Manning.  An Eli can take you to the promised land.

Brady IMO should just be removed from all conversations and points made.   He skews everything.

just because nick files technically started the Super bowl doesn’t mean he was the eagles starter, the eagles rode an mvp season from Carson wentz to the postseason and regressed as he regressed

None of the other teams won a super bowl, and again, emphatically, all of them have moved on from those players because they want to have sustained success

Honestly, I don't know WTF is going to happen with this. It looks like we gave a few minor-ish draft picks for a chance to kick the tires of a former #3 draft pick who has at least seen the field.

When he saw the field, he pretty much couldn't compete. Then again, no one on those teams could compete and the Jets have been the poster child for the worst coaching in the league. They basically destroy all of their high draft picks... and all of their draft picks are high. It is a sign of a bad organization.

So, we get a one-year test drive on a guy that probably should have been at least a decent QB. He doesn't have a lot of injuries, doesn't seem to have any legal baggage and has a built-in fifth year option that we can make use of if he performs decent to great here.

Had we waited until after the draft, chances are the Jets were going to release him at some point. And we could have gotten him cheaper, probably, if we could get him at all. Someone was going to take a shot at him, as a back up at the least. So, we kind of got ahead of that line (and it might well have been a very short line considering his stats).

The line on Rhule is that he rehabilitates broken programs and brings them back into respectability. If he can do that with Darnold, we might see this as a brilliant move. If he can't, then we aren't out a whole lot, but we may need to start looking at buy out options for Rhule's contract. Hate to put it that way, but this is the NFL and you perform or you find new employment.

If you look at pure winning percentages, having an elite QB will consistently put you in a better position to win. That doesn't mean it is the ONLY way to win in the NFL. It just becomes harder without that elite QB.

Elite QB's can more easily win without a great supporting cast than marginal QB's. So that margin for error gets greater by just having those guys on your team. Hell, Cam did that for us so many times.

    • With the contract money an OT first rounder makes you can ALWAYS get a new girlfriend.  And probably an upgrade at that.  You only got 2 parents.
    • Brother. You are wholly confusing comparing situations and applying actual standards like most other franchises do like simply getting into a playoff series and winning at least 1 or 2 series games with praising. Nobody is praising the Hawks. Nobody is praising the Magic. Nobody here likes those teams. But reality is reality. The Hawks like other franchises have traded players fired coaches etc but they can still win a couple playoff games. How is that not the bare floor for you or anyone else? What are we doing here if it isn't? We've seen eye to eye on many things over the years. But you are in the camp on the Hornets where you are emotionally attached to LaMelo where you feel the need to carry his water like he's got that juice. That's cool that you feel that way. It's your prerogative. But I differ from that viewpoint entirely. If he had that juice we would not have gotten wiped off the court in 2 play in games with 2 different coaching staffs and rosters. if people don't like hearing that well I'm sorry but how the hell is this team ever going to get better and ultimately go anywhere in the postseason if we just blindly pat them on the back for getting their asses whooped before they actually even get into the real playoffs? There seem to be some Bryce Young level standards being applied here. That's wild to me. But to each his own.
    • Proctor/Freeling were always the belles of the ball where we were picking. What those two *could* become at OT was far greater than what others could be at their respective positions and I’m glad our FO could see that.
