They aren’t carrying a taxi squad in the NHL this season are they?

No taxi squad this year which is why I feel like we should carry 23, the issue is fitting those 23 players under the cap along with Gardiner being on LTIR.

Sure we could always call someone up from Chicago but carrying 23 makes it easier.

Caught some highlights, looks like good things, things to work on, rooks are pulling their weight. 1 week and 1 day until regular season!

For the majority of this season I think it’s prudent to do a single games thread, as the NBA forum does. Or perhaps monthly games thread so things don’t get completely lost.

Jarvis and Drury both look like players. And Cole looks like he's playing regular season already, the way he's was hitting guys last night.

Svech and Aho both had opportunities in the 3-on-3 OT to win last night and fumbled badly. Tripp and company were talking about how hard Svech worked in the off-season and how he was in camp early, but I don't think he looked good at all last night. He whiffed a couple shots, missed passes off his stick and his puck handling looked pretty rusty.

The team looked a little off in general with their passing, but I chalk it up to them still being in preseason mode.

Jarvis and Drury both look to be on an upwards trend.  I don't think they spend one of Jarvis's ELC years this year, but I think he'll see 9-10 games.  Drury might make the big club.

I noticed Bear really trying to force some passes that weren't there, we need to calm him down and let him know he doesn't have to try to do too much.

I think Svech also needs to relax and just play his game, it's like he's gripping his stick a little too tight since he signed that extension.

    • I see both sides of the arguments, but compared to last year we're somehow at an upgrade over completely fried Dalton and wasn't even good in college Plummer. At least Pickett and Grier probably have some desire to make more money when Dalton was happy to just go through the motions and I will never understand why they even bothered with Plummer.
    • After watching Dan for 3 yrs now, I think I understand his plan. It’s a simple plan that should work for the long run.     I saw some of this last yr. Dan wants a vet and a young player at each position. I really think we go OT if one they like there. Moton is aging, Icky will not be back until 27, if ever. We need to get ahead of the tackle problem
    • You are just stressing too much about these particular positions. You want to upgrade from Bryce and I understand that but you aren’t going to really get that without getting into a bidding war for a QB2 potential QB1 like Willis. You could possibly trade for Mills or the backup for Chicago but they are still gambles and their teams will won’t decent picks.  Again the Eagles thought KP was a capable enough backup to trade for him once their backup was hurt and won a Super Bowl with him as QB2. The point is most teams aren’t rolling with some stud QB2/3 that is going to push even a bottom tier starter. They are better off the building their roster in other areas. The Rams are rolling with Bennett right now as QB2 for example.  The goal is winning absolutely. We overachieved last year even with stumbling into the playoffs. Another year and this staff needs to take the next step in building a team. Will Grier has little to no impact on that….
