For what we traded, CJ isn’t considered a high end CB yet. He was a high draft pick, sure, but he was dumped by his team after one year. He’s a developmental player right now.

I think this is what it is.  He's at the level of 3rd round pick, not a top 10 pick.  I don't think we can count on CJ being a shutdown corner, at least this year which is obviously fine considering what we traded for him.  I did have my hopes up that he could "replace" Horn asap and our defense not miss a beat.  I don't blame anything in Dallas on him, btw.  He was only in the system for a few days and I really don't blame him for not being up to speed.

Which all of this is exactly what I was getting at in my original post.  CJ's not a top 10 pick talent level right now, he's developmental.

If we want to beat Tampa this is the exact kind of secondary we need. They will cross these bridges when they get to them. Djax is playing his ass off and they’ll bring him back.

We are seeing a shift in the priorities of our defense. It’s not all about the front seven anymore. It’s pass rush and secondary

$15M a year for Donte? There’s only 7 who make that much or more and 2 of the 7 have reasonable outs after 2021 which would effectively mean they got $13-14 per year. Those guys are a level above Donte. Unless Marty pulls a Samuel, I think Donte’s in the $8-10 range, maybe $9-11.

You're dreaming man. The way contracts work in the NFL is if you're an above average player at your position when it's time for a new contract you're going to get top 3-5 money at your position, if not become the highest paid. And then a year or two later as the next players at the position get their deals and the cap continues to increase that contract that looks huge initially will be like 10th highest paid at the position and be completely fine.

Donte has already earned $15M/year easily. He's been better than Bradberry and is getting his contract 2 years later with a higher cap and James is making $14.5M/yr.

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
