RBA, “Nino Could Be Out For A While”

Well Jarvis, you’re up kid…

Keep in mind, at 10 games played he would burn his first year of his ELC.

Jarvis’ 10th game would be Nov. 22nd.

It looked like Nino did some damage to his ankle which would more than likely be a minimum of three weeks.

As Jarvis gets close to the 10 game threshold, it will be interesting to see if they burn his first year or if they call up a veteran like C.J. Smith, Stefan Noesen, or Andrew Poturalski.

Jamieson Rees would have been an option but he just had knee surgery.

Jarvis is extremely talented he currently has the ability to make it worth it to burn that year if he plays well.

No doubt that Jarvis will be a good player but I think the Canes are thinking of it from a long-term contract perspective.

Ultimately I think it depends on how significant Nino’s injury is.

If he’s looking at a month and a half or so then I wouldn’t be surprised if Jarvis gets 9 games and then the Canes call up someone like C.J. Smith and roll with:

KK - Aho - Turbo

Svech - Trocheck - Necas

Marty - Staal - Fast

Smith - Stepan - Lorentz

I don’t think the Canes really want to burn one of Jarvis’ years due to what this off-season might look like:

RFA’s:

Steven Lorentz - Try to re-sign for around 2x$1.35M

Martin Necas - Try to re-sign for around 5x$6M

Jesperi Kotkaniemi - Try to re-sign for around 3x$4M

Ethan Bear - Try to re-sign for around 3x$3.5

UFA’s:

Vincent Trocheck - Try to re-sign for around 5x$6M

Tony DeAngelo - Try to re-sign for around 3x$5M

Ian Cole - Try to re-sign for around 1x$1.5M

Nino Niederreiter - Won’t be able to afford

Derek Stepan - Do not re-sign

Brendan Smith - Do not re-sign

Buy-Out’s:

Jake Gardiner

All these calculations put us right at the projected $82.5M salary cap. This means the rest of the roster will have to be filled out by ELC guys and having them under control for three years as opposed to just two would be huge.

Next years lineup could look something like this:

KK - Aho - Turbo

Svech - Trocheck - Necas

Jarvis - Staal - Fast

Marty - Drury - Lorentz

Rees

Slavin - Bear

Skjei - Pesce

Cole - DeAngelo

Keane

Andersen

Raanta

I'm still somewhat of a newb when it comes to bringing guys up etc...why hasn't Suzuki had a look yet?  Drafted in 2019 and put up some really solid points where he's been playing.

We have a log jam down the middle with Aho, Trocheck, Staal, and Stepan.

Lorentz, Martinook, Jarvis, Necas, and Kotkaniemi can also play center if needed.

What really hurt Ryan was that he had a serious eye injury in 2019 and it’s taken him a while to regain his form.

Unfortunately, during that time, Jack Drury has really progressed and has more than likely jumped Suzuki in the pecking order.

I think Ryan projects as a 3C in the NHL and unfortunately for him that position is occupied by Jordan Staal for at the very least this year and next year.

I would not be surprised if he is used as a piece to facilitate a trade in the coming years as the Canes will still have a lot of young center depth.

Centers Aged 21 or Under

Jesperi Kotkaniemi (21)

Seth Jarvis (19)

Jack Drury (21)

Jamieson Rees (20)

Vasiliy Ponomarev (19)

Blake Murray (20)

Justin Robidas (18)

No skate or presser today and no other roster move so far, and I assume no morning skate tomorrow. We can only assume Jarvis will be covering for Nino and Raanta will probably be back in net.

Im kinda split on tossing Jarvis on 3rd line or putting up Marty or Lorentz. We know what we are gonna get from Marty, so seeing Lorentz or Jarvis up there might be the way to go.

I think Marty gets bumped up personally.

The Staal line is used as the checking line so Marty’s game fits in well there.

I don’t disagree for Chicago in Chicago, FL and TB for sure but since we got another clinic game vs Arizona who only put up 16 shots on Washington last night. We might as well see how we look with one of the other two up there.

    • Exactly. How would a chip in the ball know when a player was down? That element will absolutely still be a referee determination.
    • This is you, bringing Smith and Mills into the conversation about Bryce. This is you again relating those two to Bryce  You are absolutely relating these players, possibly the only one doing so, and then somehow calling other posters stupid about it. But don't let that pesky fact stop you - by all means, please continue to demean us/others in your responses.
