RALEIGH, NC. - Tonight will be anything but typical for the Carolina Hurricanes, as they dress a shorthanded lineup against the Detroit Red Wings.

Due to COVID-19 Protocols and salary cap constraints, the team is only able to dress 16 skaters and two goaltenders this evening, two skaters short of a normal NHL lineup.

Currently the following skaters are out due to measures caused by the virus (alphabetical, last): Sebastian Aho, Ian Cole, Seth Jarvis, Steven Lorentz, Jordan Staal, Andrei Svechnikov.

This morning the team was able to recall Jack Drury from Chicago to take the roster spot vacated by Jalen Chatfield moving to injured reserve on Tuesday.

In addition to Drury, the team was granted two emergency exemptions by the NHL to reach the 16, selecting Stefan Noesen and Andrew Poturalski.

Lastly, Brett Pesce and Tony DeAngelo are set to return for the first time in 17 days. The two were removed from protocol last Thursday, however, could not join the team in Canada and then Tuesday's game was postponed.

The team's projected lineup for this evening against the Red Wings is as follows:

Forwards:

Niederreiter - Trocheck - Necas

Teravainen - Kotkaniemi - Fast

Drury - Stepan - Noesen - Poturalski

Defensemen:

Slavin - DeAngelo

Skjei - Pesce

Smith - Bear

Starting Goalie:

Andersen

This is so stupid. Getting 100% vaccination should give us leeway to choose if we want to reschedule this.

The whole league minus two players and a few fudgers are vaccinated though so we don’t really have a leg up there. It it’s like this is the NFL, where they don’t really give a fug.

Meant to post this here…

Telling everyone right now that you will be impressed with Jack.

He may not be as noticeable offensively as Jarvis quite yet but his overall impact will be more noticeable. He plays a lot like his uncle Chris and is the perfect RBA player. Remember, he’s been playing against grown men for a few years now so don’t be surprised if he fits right in.

    • It appears that he sees things differently than the QB and OC, so Cam's advice is spot on. It isn't about number of targets, it's about quality of targets. Trust and being on the same page. BY doesn't know how to anticipate what XL is doing. And XL doesn't like where BY is placing passes. One on one film study would go a long way. More for BY than XL though. He has to adjust to XL. I really don't think XL can adjust on the fly.
    • If the team shows improvement, then he shouldn't be in danger of losing his job - even if the record doesn't reflect. This was a very young team (with a lot of new vet starters) that overperformed last season. Somebody's doing something right. Consistency is key with so much youth. And we're potentially looking at new starters at ILB and FS. Those are positions that take time to fully understand the defense. ILB calls the front 7. Safety calls the back 4. Injuries at WR and IOL killed the offense last season. Depth needs to be upgraded. Same with Edge. I think they would have won more games if Pat Jones doesn't go down early. Be smart with the roster and draft. Trade players for assets when it's time to pay them more than they're worth - yes, that includes BY if he doesn't make a pretty big jump. That's one of the many reasons Tillis is as important as anyone to the future of this team.
    • He had heart surgery a while back he looks Fraile I hope he is okay
