Being completely objective here, McAdoo was the best available Candidate for the Job

The defense finished #2 in the league and it is average?  LOL.  So fuggin dumb.  Especially considering our offense…absurd

BTW…your Steelers finished well below average on defense…maybe you are confused again

My Steelers finished in the playoffs as usual. The Panthers do that but about 30% of the team. Who cares where a DEF ranks in yards? I’ll take any level of defense over sitting at home during playoffs talking about the draft in week 8. You sound like your buy Rhule….. you’ve reached this stage

Listen, I despise Matt Rhule as our coach and want him gone yesterday. But I don't think this hiring is the nail in the coffin that everyone thinks it is.

Looking at this move objectively, McAdoo was probably our best available option. He has had success as an OC in NY before he took over head coaching duties where he then became a dumpster fire, but that's all everyone remembers. Compared to the other two guys we brought in to interview twice:

  • Jay Gruden - Average success at best as an OC
  • Scotty Montgomery - Dumpster fire coach that tanked ECU and has done absolutely nothing of note as a professional.

McAdoo was good OC, just a terrible HC. There are plenty of Coordinators like that throughout the NFL (Wade Philips, Rex Ryan, Romeo Crennel, Steve Spagnuolo, etc.) and people lose sight of that when it comes to head coaching failures.

We have some of the least desirable job openings in the NFL this season thanks to Matt Rhule's lame duck status and potential mid season firing looming. The league's best and brightest weren't really an option this offseason.

I was not expecting a move this competent from Matt Rhule if I'm being completely honest. Rhule said he wanted an OC with past success who was also a HC. Based on Rhule's track record I fully expected a 180 and hiring of scottie Montgomery, but McAdoo actually checks the boxes of an OC that Rhule spoke about.

Do I ultimately think this will save his job? No. We suck due mainly to the horrible roster management that Rhule has seen to over the past two seasons. If we go into the 2022 season with Darnold we are going to be the consensus choice to get the #1 overall pick in the draft next year.

But looking at the situation devoid of emotion, it was probably the best move Rhule could have made.

My sentiments on your point that he wasn’t successful as HC but he was a great coordinator and I hope he can do that for us!! I heard crap about how people were saying he handled Eli poorly!! But Eli’s arm was dead .. noodle arm.. he had Geno Smith fresh arm.. hmm sounds familiar.. so he pissed people off cuz I think Eli was trying to get some record too.. but they were losing with him anyway.. so McADoo pissed people off. So I can’t hate on this hire too much

If you didn’t realize that your team sneaking into the playoffs was a last gasp I can’t help you

But…you don’t even consider that you are completely wrong.  Try it.  Self reflection is amazing

Reddick is a priority sign.  Stop acting like we can’t get that done.  Silly, of course we can.  The other guys may be obvious but the key guys are back on defense.  You might not like it as a Steelers fan but this team is in good shape with the cap.

You can sign anybody. Show me where I said otherwise. But every guy you sign on DEF, takes away from the limited space they have for all those other positions that are needed. And investing in a player that can be a liability as much as an asset might not be smart with multiple other issues. All I listed were free agents. And you pitched a fit. But this is your first time even trying to debate it and it’s not what I said at all. The Panthers have many holes and limited resources to fix them. It’s been discussed non stop on here for a long time now. Instead you attack the source and can’t even do that because you know where that will lead.

Stop…nobody pitches fits.  You love a false dilemma.  I am not responding to it

I guess me posting before the game that we were going to get crushed means nothing. I know your team 10x better than you. So how well do you think I know my own team? Again, you’re just making up anything you can to avoid the subject.

You’re the one making it up as you go along. Now u mad because you’re stuck and just refuse to discuss anything in reality. You’re not responding because you’re incapable. It’s not that you’re unwilling.

I think you are forgetting Rhule is still the HC and his college boys are all still going to be position coaches. McAdoo may have been good under true blood NFL coaches. We don’t have that.

How did anything I say translate to something like that? Ahead for the #1 pick in 2023 maybe.  No one is this dumb. Either tell me why I was wrong or go sit down.

People talking about not resigning Reddick.  LOL.  Take TJ Watt off the Steelers.  The Steelers are in for a major rebuild regardless

I’m just going to let that stand on its own.

Well, except one a the DPOY(or will be) and the other just had the same season he had the year before and had to sign with his college coach for 6M. Keep digging. That was great. How drunk are you?

    • Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.
    • Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.
    • Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
