I want to believe that Lattanzio has learned you can’t just park the damn bus when you score early. MAR did that same poo a few times and it burned us then too

That flick from Swidz was filthy and I’m glad Bronico finished it off. Gaines made himself useful tonight

I feel like Vargas’ start for wasted because we were so defensive in the first half after that goal. He was playing way too deep in the CLT half and looked unsure of himself on the attack. He really only got that one good shot off

Yeah I didn’t understand the philosophy in the first. If you want to get to half at 1-1 or nil-nil that’s fine, but you have to dink the ball around the back to at least give yourself a break. I felt like when we weren’t defending we were just clearing it right back up the field to NYCFC.

In the second half we started pressing much higher and overall we just looked much quicker.

It’s pretty much why I’ve gotten off the CL train. He has gotten the team to play better since taking over. I don’t think we’d still be in this playoff hunt under MAR, but his tactical decisions just aren’t consistent. First half, we were clearly looking to counter with long balls and it worked…once. After that goal they were playing deeper on Gaines’ side to kill his effectiveness and pressing everywhere else.

The 2nd half tactics should just be the tactics all the time. A consistent plan from game to game and just get good at it

Yeah and as you mentioned the philosophy in the first half was really useless when it came to evaluating a player like Vargas.

Nonetheless, glad to get all three points and still be in the hunt.

I’m also hopeful that by September, our new arrivals: Santos, Byrne, and Malanda, will all be available.

Lattanzio said Malanda had an appointment in France and could happen by Sunday and that Byrne and Santos were approved and just waiting for appointments in their home countries

    • Ravens mixing it up with a random Mark Andrew tush push last year isn't a similar situation.  Lamar has run QB sneaks his entire career.  And often instead of a traditional sneak will even employ a 4th and 1 direct snap to Lamar simply because of how athletic he is (which even Cam did a lot of) and let him pick his own holes.
    • height being an issue doesn't just mean batted balls.  You could argue Bryce minimizes batted balls by adopting other poor habits such as his jump passing and leaving the pocket.   As I said, there are plays you can point to where he clearly was blind to parts of the field/players....which kills plays and opportunity. Which actually means some of the shorter/hot throws when things break down are where his vision gets blocked (and he had below average production all around the line of scrimmage).   has he figured it out? I mean, he improved off a trainwreck start.  But Bryce Young since arriving in the league (even while figuring it out)......doesn't generate much offensive production vs his peers.  I just think his ceiling is low.   And that's not in the grand scheme what you want in the NFL.  I think he can develop into a serviceable QB, that will largely always been a middle of the pack or low end starter.
    • People make a lot of noise about his footwork and I think it is overblown. Whether he takes 3 steps backwards or 5 small steps doesn't matter as long as he ends up at the right depth and is in sync with  the receiver regarding timing. If he does that consistently who cares as long as he has a firm stable base as he delivers the ball. Which he does need to work on. However even that is somewhat overblown given that often QBs have to throw off balance or from different arm angles to fit the ball around defenders. He is considered very accurate so apparently it isn't hurting him that much.
