If you wanna QB like Matt Ryan or Derek Carr, by all means, you have a right to have low standards and be boring, but if you want a good QB to compete with good teams you'll pass on this draft class

I don't really give a damn about exciting or boring.

Michael Vick was as exciting as anybody but the Falcons never won sh-t with him.

Drew Brees and Tom Brady were boring as hell but they won games, playoffs and championships.

Give me somebody that wins.

...

Now with all that said, I'll state once again for the record that I don't want any quarterback from this year's draft class either.

willis can probably run a 4.4 and throws 75 mph. even if he was brain dead you could teach that to be something, but he also scored a 32 on the wonderlic.

That...hasn't really proven true in the past.

There have been plenty of athletic quarterbacks drafted with the idea that somebody could teach them how to read defenses and throw accurate passes only to see them massively bust at both.

Whether or not Willis will pan out? Don't know, but his athleticism doesn't guarantee a thing.

there's just not that many examples. vick is probably the closest we've seen that could do both of those things but vick was left handed and he had very little touch. sincerely, if malik willis plays a snap next season he's going to be the fastest QB to do so. who else has had the skillset?

Today you need a talented QB Scot, an AFC QB. Exciting means talented currently, this isn't fifteen years ago.

There's examples on pretty much an annual basis, going way back.

Akili Smith was an amazing athlete too. And heck, I think about six different teams tried to make something out of Jeff George.

Talented passer, absolutely. And if they also happen to be a talented athlete, that's great. But it's not an essential requirement.

The non-negotiables for an NFL quarterback are passing accuracy, the ability to read defenses and quick decision making. If you have those, then regardless of whether you're a great athlete or not, you can win in the NFL.

If you don't have those, then no matter how good an athlete you are, you're just not gonna be anything special.

You might have some fun highlight reels, but you're not gonna win championships.

both of those guys had amazing arms, it's true. some of the best arm talent ever, but neither had game impacting speed. they were nimble especially for their time, but they were no randall cunningham. he's the first that I remember that could legitimately hurt you both ways. malik willis has the potential to be one of those handful of guys like steve young, cam newton, lamar jackson, kyler murray that can for periods of time can feel unstoppable if they get the defense off balance and the play calls are right. it remains to be seen if he has the ability to hurt you with his arm but the velocity says there's a chance. the feet certainly say there's a chance on the ground. he's a lottery ticket. in five years he will either be considered a bust or be one of the NFL's most dangerous weapons. there's not a lot in between.

    • I think Indiana will win it all but Miami should give them a much better fight than Oregon did.
    • When I tell people I was at that game, they usually say oh that’s so cool you had the experience. I call it soul crushing. Why? The weeks and months leading up to it were great, the team was fun to watch every week…some weeks the offense was unstoppable and carried the team (saints and giants road games), other times the defense carried the load (jaguars, tampa). Lots of back and forth games against good teams (Seattle and Indy). Good young players on the team, but the veteran leadership was incredible…from Cam, Olsen, Kalil and J Stew to Luke, TD, Norman, Tillman, Jared Allen, CJ. Role players like Fozzy Whitaker, Cotchery (he caught that MFer), Philly brown, Kyle love, AJ Klein, and so on.  The Friday before the nfc championship my wife and I after a few drinks said let’s see what prices look like for flights/accommodations and we got to talking about how much prices would increase if we waited until we found out if we would be in the big game. We said screw it, we are only out $200 if we have to cancel.  Of course we come out and just pulverized the cardinals in front of the most raucous crowd by far we’ve ever had. We had no idea what we would do for game tickets and then found out a neighbor who worked for the team could get us 2 for face value (each employee got two of their own for free, something cool that JR did).  But then the NFL mafia decided that the storyline of manning going out on top like Elway would give them more goodwill than a non traditional QB who didn’t connect with their target demo and the rest is history. I never have and never will watch that game again. I am just hoping I can see them win one in the 2nd half of my life.
