Don't let Minshew get away..

I would take Minshew over Darnold, or Jimmy G but I would not pay a high price for Minshew. Problem is we have a ton tied up in Darnold this year and I have a bad feeling he isn't even able to be traded because absolutely nobody is going to want him based upon his tape which makes me think we are stuck with and rolling with Sam. If it were me, I would take Minshew on a simple trade where we don't give much of anything for him at all and have him with Darnold backing him up for a season till we can find a future QB to draft and get rid of Darnold after this season. Minshew has proven he can be a decent backup I think and then it gives him a year or two if we draft a rookie to play and prove he could actually be a starter. I don't think Minshew would light the world on fire but seems to be best of what we could have this year because I am not sold on any of the QB's being worth the 6th pick and believe we should wait til next season to move on a top QB in the draft.

I think that the entire Minshew option can be summed up in one statement.

If you think that he is gonna take you to the promised land then you get him. If he’s not gonna take the Panthers to the Super Bowl then don’t do it.

I don’t understand the concept of getting a middling quarterback when the Panthers already have one.

To be fair, Darnold isn't even middling.

He's the worst starting QB in the NFL.

Minshew has shown far and away more competency as a QB than Darnold ever has.

Minshew would be an upgrade and he would be relatively cheap in terms of compensation.

Because of said cheap compensation, it would not deter us from addressing the position in the draft either this or next year if he shits the bed.

Well, we all make since (intentional).  Personally, I don't worry about grammar, but I do try not to sound like a drunk foreign exchange student from an impoverished Eastern Block country.

I like trying to sound that way myself.  It confuses the trolls so it has its advantages.

    • Care to elaborate why you disagree? We kicked the ball off 3 times and we kept the Browns to starting field position of the 22, 27, and 10 (would have been 21 before a penalty). All 3 of those are successes with the modern kickoff rule.
    • Its August so obviously quality options are not there. The question is whether any improvement can be made to the bottom of the depth chart.
    • NFL has a huge amount of parity.  The talent level between most NFL starters outside of the top 5 to 10 guys at a position is very comparable.  2020 worst teams Jacksonville Jaguars - 1-15 (worst record in NFL) New York Jets - 2-14 Cincinnati Bengals - 4-11-1 Atlanta Falcons - 4-12 Houston Texans - 4-12 Carolina Panthers - 5-11 Detroit Lions - 5-11 Philadelphia Eagles - 4-11-1 Los Angeles Chargers - 7-9 Denver Broncos - 5-11 2024 Worst teams New York Giants - 3-14 (tied for worst) Cleveland Browns - 3-14 (tied for worst) Tennessee Titans - 3-14 (tied for worst) New England Patriots - 4-13 Carolina Panthers - 5-12 Jacksonville Jaguars - 4-13 Las Vegas Raiders - 4-13 New York Jets - 5-12 Chicago Bears - 5-12 Arizona Cardinals - 8-9 Bengals, Texans, Lions, Eagles, Broncos and the Jags have all made the the playoffs in the last 3 years. What I'm saying is it's stupid to argue when team is the worst when there is so much parity and the system allows quick turnarounds.
