jonathan stewart - countdown to 1000 yards and other pointless stats to ponder

Recommended Posts

he needs 491 yards in 6 games to hit the 1000 yard mark. that's 81.8 yards per game.

contrary to the concerns of some about stewart "stealing" carries from williams, he's on pace to have less rushing attempts than he did last season while williams will have more. he's going to need some big games in order to hit the mark.

he's already surpassed brad hoover on the (very young) all time panthers' rushing leaders list. another 126 yards and he will be ahead of nick goings. 451 yards will bump him into the number 6 position above anthony johnson.

with 209 yards, he will have a better second season than all of the panthers' all time leading rushers with the exception of anthony johnson.

192 yards will give him a better freshman/sophomore year total than any panthers' RB.

some day stewart will get a shot at the starting position. it'd be nice to see what the kid can do with additional and more consistent carries.

Let's not forget that he's able to do this because we have another viable threat along side him. Those two guys work in conjunction with one another. So, to say one would do better if he was to get more carries is ignoring this fact. Plus our offense has no air game, we need two running backs to get legs healthy and give the other guy a break.

you'd be hard pressed to convince some people that williams wouldn't be better without stewart.

Both Williams and Stewart will have better careers because of one-another. Welcome to the official era of the two-back system. Defenses have gotten so much bigger, stronger and faster that it's too much punishment for one back to take.

I sincerly hope we hang on to both of them for a long time. If we ever get a passing game to compliment double-trouble we will be unstoppable.
