Panthers meet with Sam Howell

Someone will take him in the 1st. I would almost bet he will go before Willis. I would take him over Pickett and Willis.

I've said all along that Howell and Corral are my top two. Willis has intriguing tools but trying to project him to the NFL from Liberty is just a leap I'm not willing to make but he does have first round talent. That's the end of the list of guys I'd consider in the first.

I'm with you on that. Willis is a huge gamble that may never pay off. Corral and Howell seem to have the best shot or should I say the odds favor them being an nfl caliber QB. But that's not a guarantee in the least. It takes so much more than talent to be an NFL qb.

This is why I'm big on Howell. I've watched the guy play behind a nearly non-existent OL and only one legit receiver with his draft status hanging in the balance and the guy never showed any signs of being frustrated or rattled. After barely running at all his first two seasons he ran like a mad man out of sheer necessity. He's really damn good at just focusing on the things he can control and tuning out the rest of the noise.

That's a great trait to have because he certainly will need it at the next level. These kids have not seen a fraction of the pressure they will see at this level. I'm not talking just about the pressure on the field either.

Sam Howell has big time mechanical red flags. He also was in an offense where he was asked to make two reads max. Mack Brown QBs tend to suck unless they’re a generational guy like Vince Young.

That's a false statement.  Everything I have seen and read about him says he reads the field well and makes plays.    His biggest issue in 2021 was he had no established WR.  All were new replacements for the ones who got drafted in 2021.

Mechanical flaws I guess that depends on who says so.  He may have some but those can be coached out.

You didn't watch any of the previous two years did you?

Of course I did, this past year is just the most troublesome. He didn’t have the best protection nor an elite running game and it exposed a lot of his flaws. Instead of navigating the pocket, he chose to throw off-platform or flat out run outside of the pocket. While that may pass in college, it doesn’t translate to the league. He’s a project who maybe starting caliber in 2-3 years.

My opinion, so it’s true to me.

    • I like this kid--he will make the roster.  However, he said that his sophomore year was the first playoff game in school history. Incorrect.  Western Carolina beat them in the FCS playoffs many years ago.

    • Furyk is weird. That’s a loop.  A hitch. That’s not Young as a QB. I was raised in golf land.. the family business. Tiger was pretty classic. I’m not sure what the exact discrepancy in his swing was, pre and post intervention. I remember names of the top echelon coaches involved (Haney, Harmon).
