Chris Harris might be the odd man out

Interesting..

The idea that Harris might be the odd man out seemed strange, but the longer you look at it, the more you realize it might be a factor in the long term if not today at the New York Jets.

The only problem was that the play that earned Harris the money hasn't been as evident since, which makes Godfrey's query a reasonable one, looking to the future

Godfrey clearly is not that player (though he still has potential at free safety with his speed), and Martin is only beginning to show indications he could play with a similar style. The problem with Harris is that he used to be that guy but hasn't been in some time.

So with Harris' salaries scheduled to grow to $2.05 million, $2.45 million and $2.9 million the next three years (while both Godfrey and Martin are toiling on rookie-scale deals), the future of the position might very well be in doubt.

I don't agree at all. Harris' return to the secondary was a big boost to the team as his physical style of play and leadership was a significant upgrade to Godfrey's generally poor play. Martin seems to be the free safety of the future and Godfrey isn't very physical or good in coverage. Godfrey will be here because he is cheap not because he is good. With no cap next year Harris will be safe for another year. In 2011 we will see what Godfrey can do. But at this point the weak link is Godfrey not Harris.

Godfrey sucks what the hell?

He can't tackle/hit worth a poo, I'd rather take a slower guy who can hit than one that's fast... at failing.

The safetey position is not one to put a soft tackler, as they are usually the last chance the D has before a score.

Well this season he is the S who have allowed the highest passer rating against him and he is the only S on our team who have allowed a TD and on top on that he is allowing the most yds of our S.

But he is a beast against the run and Godfrey cant tackle.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
