Bottom of the Roster Guys

I was looking through the roster today and noticed several guys I don't know anything about (which is usually the case on a 90 man roster after OTAs). I have listed a few of these Unknown Guys below with some very simple analysis after a very small amount of research (Hey Google!). Enjoy and comment if you like...

Josh Babicz (TE)- One of our UDFAs this year. He played at NDSU and was a pretty good weapon for Trey Lance a couple of years ago. He looks big and fairly athletic. On tape he just seemed to catch a lot of balls with no one around him- just leaking out into holes in the defense for big gains. Nothing complex or spectacular but he took what he was given and made the most of it.

Darius Bradwell (RB)- This guy is a big back like Donta Foreman (Over 230lbs). He has a real good first step it seems, real quick out the gate for a sizeable guy. He was a UDFA (out of Tulane) for the Chargers last year- we grabbed him recently. We still have Spencer Brown (a UDFA last year) and Foreman on the roster so its all uphill for this guy to have a chance.

Davis Cheek QB- A local product that played at Elon University. A small school kid who has good size (over 6'3 and 215 lbs). He was signed as a UDFA. Cheek is probably a camp body at best, but I'm pulling for him.

Isaiah Graham Mobley (LB)- Probably another camp body. Mobley is an UDFA out of Boston College. he was a Temple transfer though- so he's got a better shot than most to make the roster. Not a lot of easy tape on this guy (no highlight reels so...)

Ra'Shaun Henry (WR)- a long athletic receive out of Virginia. He ran a 4.43 40 at his Pro Day and is 6'3. He came to us after the draft as a UDFA. We have alot of WRs on the roster. We need someone to step up to help DJ.

Talolo Limu-Jones- (WR)- A tall and big-bodied receiver out of Eastern Washington (6'4). Does seem to get open on tape (no separation) but uses his body box out defenders and make plays.

Jordan Lovett (RB)- A medium-sized back- kinda quick, kinda athletic, but not really a difference maker that I can see. Because he was at Baylor before transferring to Penn St- He'll kinda make the roster or at least the PS. (an UDFA).

Marquan McCall (DT)- An UDFA out of Kentucky. He was listed at 6'3 and 379lbs at one time in College. He is listed at 345 on our roster. A true NT, maybe he can kick B. Roy out of the rotation on odd fronts. On tape he seems to play through the whistle (gives good effort and looks like a big NFL Nose Tackle). He did seem to gas out but the effort was there when the conditioning was not (at least in the tiny amount of tape I saw).

Wyatt Miller (T) This kid started in all of his games as a Sr. and Jr. at UCF (RT as a Jr and LT as a Sr.) He was signed as an UDFA by the NY Jest in 2019 and has bounced on and off a few rosters since then. I'm not sure if there's any reason he'll stick to ours. He has the length to be an NFL tackle but isn't as big as we are looking for recently. I'm not sure about his arms....Maybe Rhule would have viewed him as a 7th round G and UDFA T.

Aaron Mosby (DE)- An UDFA from Fresno St, he started 12 of 13 games as a 2nd year senior last year. He recorded over 15 TFLs so maybe he can help us set the edge if he get a little bigger. On tape he is aggressive and uses his hands well (good at poking out the football) but may not be explosive enough or big enough to be a solid NFL DE.

Andrew Parchment (WR)- Coming out of FSU, this guy ran a slower than expected 40 (4.62 at his Pro Day). He plays physical and catches the ball with his hands. At 6'2 he's fairly tall. Uses his body well to block out smaller defenders. IMO could possibly stick if we need another possession receiver or ST standout. Not sure he could beat out Zylstra though.

Charleston Rambo (WR)- Yet another undrafted WR brought in to compete with last years under performing group (exempt DJ), Rambo is an UDFA our of Miami. Rambo tested poorly at the NFL scouting combine (4.57 40) for a smaller WR. He was productive at Miami after transferring from Oklahoma. He looks decent on tape but nothing stands out (except maybe his ability to track and highpoint the ball). More competition for Zylstra maybe.

Jared Scott (TE)- An UDFA we signed as a tryout player after Rookie Mini Camp. He played his senior year at Idaho St, but also spent time at Jacksonville St. and Prairie View A&M (where he played WR as a Junior). He was not very productive at WR and there's not a lot of tape on this guy at TE. A project player at best. he'll be lucky to make the PS unless we turn him into a FB, cuz WRs who try to play TE always make good FBs (ex- Giovanni Rici). 

Khalen Tolson (LB)- A UDFA out of Illinois, Tolson tested well at his Pro Day (including a 4.45 40). He played ST at Illinois and could make the roster in that role. He started a few games here and there in college but never stood out. He is kind of on the shorter side for a backer, but stout (6'0/235lbs). 

Jacob Tuiti-Mriner (DL)- this former UDFA (out of UCLA) has played for Atlanta the last 3 years bouncing back and forth from the PS to the active roster. He was actually defensive player of the week for the NFC awhile back after a strip sack and recovery and then another fumble recovery. He is listed on our roster as a DT but played some OLB and on ST for Atlanta. He is probably too small (260lbs) to do more than rotate in to provide an interior Pass Rush as a DT. He might stick depending on how Snow wants to build the DL and is he can impress on ST.

 

Derek Wright (WR)- Another receiver, Wright is an UDFA out of Utah St. He led his team in TD receptions last year (11). He's a medium-sized guy (6 ft or 6'1 and 195lbs) with some moderate  speed (4.54 40 or so). Nothing special but not too shabby either. He looks faster on tape to me than his time suggests and he tracks the ball well on long passes. He might have a shot if he can contribute on special teams and shows out in camp to make the roster or at least the PS.

Drew Jordan (DE)- Jordan is another UDFA rookie. He played for 3 years at Duke before transferring to Mich. St. He only started 1 game last year for MSU as a 2nd year Senior, but played quite a bit at Duke (20 or so starts), but mostly in his Sophmore and Jr. seasons (only starting 1 his Sr. year at Duke). I can't find a lot of tape on this kid so I'm not sure why he was picked up. Another camp body I guess.

Great post.

It's funny that I remember how having a "possession" receiver was such a big thing before all these spread offense became the norm. Lacking the ability to separate is one of the quickest ways out of the league now.

Thank god a post about football players. Cheek has a really weird throwing motion, Lovett is basically Chuba, I'd rather hang on to the bigger back. Don't see how any of these WR's beat out Higgins/Zylstra/Shi for the last roster spots. TE's and D-line depth can never hurt to take a look at in camp.

No surprise Funchess is still a free agent.  Can’t believe Gettleman had us with two big, lumbering WR’s  
 

I’m wagering Charleston Rambo makes the team somehow.  With a name like that he simply has to, and with Shi Smith’s legal trouble he just might slip onto the roster.  High pointing and attacking the ball seemed like something Shi was good at, so he might fill that role if things go south with Shi

It's possible but it's been a while since we had a UDFA actually make the roster, IIRC.

First year since RHule took over, where the team will have a few hard choices to the 53 cut. 

RHule was big on development and thats what the 16 man PS is for.....havnt seen the effort or results from that group...  It should be one of the better ones this year...

The team clearly likes this guy and believe he can make the team.

I suspect that means he will at least make the PS.

Interesting, just noticed on Over The Cap that Rambo has the same $100,000 guarantee and a $5k bonus.

That is interesting. We threw money at UDFA WR's. Maybe they view the positional depth as less than ideal? 

I would have honestly said that is one of our stronger units on the team.

...Maybe they are looking at the effort being put forth by the varsity team.

Even if that is the case, none of those guys is likely capable of beating out our top three. I think maybe it's more about that bottom of the roster churn Fitterer talked about.

Zylstra is probably a lock on special teams, so 9 guys fighting for maybe 2 spots? Probably Shi and Higgins jobs to steal.
