Options at LB for 2023

I would rather draft a ballhawk S prospect and move Chinn full time to LB akin to Davis who was drafted as a S but became a full time LB.

Restructure and/or cut Shaq and resign him to a team friendly deal, roll with Luvu - Shaq - Chinn at LB and go with Woods and a high draft pick or FA signing at S (Poyer/Bates/Bell/CJG could all be options depending on our cap moves).

Will have to see what kind of Defense we use first.

Not one people are thinking right off the top of their head.  But I like the idea of Nolan Smith.  The edge rusher from Georgia.  He played more 3-4 OLB.  But believe he had played regular LB early on at Georgia.

he has the athletic ability and skill to play 4-3 SLB similar to the way Micah Parsons is used in Dallas.

he may be one of those guys who slips and falls in our lap in rd 2

Both LB and TE have some awesome talent in this draft.

This is why i am against giving up draft capital to move down for a qb (unless it's Young or Stroud). Lots of needs at wr, te, edge, lb but lots of really good prospects who will be around in rounds two and three. We trade back and we could really get a quality wr, te, and lb(s) to add to the team.

    • Man... definitely missing him on the field for the Panthers this season. That concussion Jewell suffered going sideways jacked up the LB room pretty bad.
    • I wish I could gaslight myself into believing the same, but Eric Eager wasn't even mentioned until two posts before mine here on page five after the initial pivot to complain about Bryce on page one. Considering the views some of those involved have shared regarding PFF + Dan's involvement on Fitterer's team and... well... Regardless of all of that, Nic Scourton looked really good against the Dolphins. He was setting the edge well and even looked decent in coverage when required to drop back. He was destroying the right side of the Dolphins' OL and even got the best of the LT on several occasions. Seeing what Nic's doing on the field is likely what Evero was hoping DJJ could develop into when they took him. The team also isn't using him as much on special teams (hasn't logged a punt team snap since week 2 but is still part of the FG blocking unit). Completely different players and playstyles, but Scourton's motor and ability to remain constant while opposing OL start to gas out in the late game reminds me a lot of Charles Johnson.
