So what should our lines look like?  How much shaking up do we do? Do our big guns just play extra min while our 4th line plays less?

we need a spark. We need Burns to play well. Tripp said on TV that he played a ton of min in San Jose. Maybe he needs to play more to get into game mode. He is too much Dougie Hamilton and not enough Defense. Turbo hasn’t scored but he sure as hell generates offense. Max. Please get healthy and stay healthy.

Breaking: Pyotr Kochetkov skated practice with the starting lines this morning. 'The Score' reporting he is the starter against the Jets David Rittich (2-1-0).

Canes Record: 10-5-3 (23 Points, 2nd, Metropolitan Division)

Canes Last Game: 2-1 Overtime Loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday, November 19

Jets Record: 10-5-1 (21 Points, T-2nd, Central Division)

Jets Last Game: 3-0 Loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, November 19

NEWS & NOTES:

Last Time Out: The first period of Saturday night's affair in St. Paul was an okay one for the Canes, taking an early 1-0 lead and holding the Wild to just five shots. After that things turned sour. Rod Brind'Amour said post-game that his team was "crap" in the final 40+ minutes of action, which included the team allowing Minnesota to turn the tide of the contest and eventually earn a victory. The Wild tied the contest with 2:37 remaining in regulation and then won it in overtime. Netminder Pyotr Kochetkov finished with 19 stops on 21 shots in the first loss of his NHL career.

No More Passengers: A good deal of Brind'Amour's frustration Saturday night stemmed from his feelings that it was not a complete team effort from the club. "That's what you get when you don't have 20 guys going and clearly we don't have that on nights when we aren't winning," the head coach said sternly post-game. "We scored one goal and that's not going to do it. How do you get goals? We've got to play a little harder and dig a little deeper."

Special Teams Struggles: An area of which players and coaches have pinpointed as one that needs improving is special teams. The club's power play now sits at 30th out of 32 in the league, capitalizing on just 14.7% of tries this season. They are 1/19 dating back to November 9, including four consecutive 0-for performances. The team's penalty kill, which had a historic run during the 2021-22 campaign, also now sits in the bottom half of the NHL. "Our special teams are kind of killing us," Martin Necas said after Thursday's loss to Colorado. Winnipeg's power play ranks 19th and their penalty kill sits at 3rd league-wide.

Injury Report: Forward Ondrej Kase has been in concussion protocol since October 13. Goaltender Frederik Andersen (lower-body injury) was placed on injured reserve, retroactive to November 6. Forward Teuvo Teravainen (upper-body injury) was placed on injured reserve, retroactive to November 10. Rod Brind'Amour said Wednesday that, "Nobody's close to coming back." Teravainen and Max Pacioretty, who tore his Achilles in August, skated Friday morning at Invisalign Arena prior to the team's limited practice.

Ya that’s kinda surprising. Has Rod lost faith in his goalies or does Raanta have an injury we don’t know about?

Or, he knows what we all do... that if we are gonna make a Stanley Cup run, this HAS to be Kucci's team!

Raanta and Anderson are not going to bring us a cup.

After the U.S.’s limp dick performance in the World Cup this afternoon, my emotions can’t afford a loss here, please win!

That was a winnable game. England is going to take our lunch money. Unfortunately the US team is still a couple of decades away from making any real noise in the WC. Also, why the fug was Reyna not out there at all.

    • What's wrong with Damien Lewis? He played pretty well last year.
    • Official NFL Cuts Tracker Deadline for roster cuts is Tuesday, August 26th. At this moment (Friday, August 22nd) the only interesting names I see are... K Caden Davis (BUF) RB Ameer Abdullah (SF) WR Equanimeous St. Brown (SF) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones (NO) LB Khaleke Hudson (TEN) Abdullah, St. Brown, Peoples-Jones I don't exactly think we should cut anybody for but it was just interesting seeing those names. Khaleke Hudson was on the Panthers' practice squad last year I believe and might have even gotten called up? And of course, Caden Davis just because of the question mark at kicker this season for the team.
    • I'll say 6/10. I don't know that we learned a whole lot about this team during preseason that we didn't already know. We didn't play the starters enough to really get a feel for what to expect. We had one good drive against the Browns, one 3-and-out and two 3-and-outs against the Texans. That's an extremely small sample size across 3 games regardless of performance. My camp/preseason takeaways: Jalen Coker might be the best WR on this team and is certainly no worse than #2. Nic Scourton is going to be a good player for us. Possibly very good. Bobby Brown was our best free agent addition. Jack Plummer isn't an NFL QB. Not even a practice squad guy. Having anyone other than Canales and Evero call plays was a really stupid and pointless idea. Our depth is largely non-existent, especially on defense. The three areas we actually DO have depth are on the OL, in the WR corp. and at RB. I can't fathom why Dan Morgan didn't do more to upgrade ILB during the offseason. We better hope Lathan Ransom steps up at FS because if he doesn't we have a massive hole. For all the hype surrounding Sanders/Evans, Tommy Tremble is still the best TE on the roster. I'm only slightly less enthusiastic going into the regular season than I was a month ago. I think our starters on offense are solid and we should be pretty good there unless Bryce totally regresses. On defense, we're probably bottom 3rd in the league if 100% healthy and significantly worse than that if injuries become an issue. We badly need at least two of our rookies to become high-level players early (ideally one of the pass rushers + Ransom) and at least 2 of our free agent additions (ideally Moehrig + Bobby Brown) to be significant upgrades over last year. Call me pessimistically optimistic 😆
