Delhommes contract

"The above is a detailed way of saying the Panthers are on the hook for almost $13M guaranteed to Delhomme, a player who will be 35 in January and whose contract they could have let expire at the end of this season with no future obligation."

Wow. Someone needs to be FIRED. Also it mentioned fear of Delhomme being a free agent in uncapped season, what a joke, all that would have meant is Jake would actually have to earn his worth. So if he wanted more after this year, he would have reasons for it 2 (back to back conference titles/playoff appearance). Bet they wish they only had to pay Delhomme what he was worth now.

Jake as a free agent in an uncapped season right now isn't good for Jake at all. Not sure he will start another game..

I like Jake as a person and am glad he has financial security for him and his family. I do not blame him as we all seek to maximize our earning potential.

As a fan of the team, it concerns me that the FO made this move because it has proven to be a disaster. I see the following taking place:

1. Short term, we get a FA QB as a starter: Jason Campbell, Tavarus Jackson, or someone similar. They all have their faults but at least they aren't rookies or Jake. This plus a couple of skill position WR and some heatlh and we can make the playoffs.

2. We draft a QB of the future: 2nd to 4th round. Bradford, Hiller or someone similar who can be groomed for a year or two and does not need to be thrown to the wolves.

3. Delhomme is the number 2: Can be a good mentor to a rookie , lots of energy and as a backup should have the swagger to come into the game and make a few plays to win a game but is not a starter in this league anymore.

We have that guy, its McCown. He is a better option than Campbell or Jackson.

that contract was a mistake. franchising peppers was a mistake that led to the jake mistake.

hurney's damage control caused more harm than good. their faith in jake was their downfall. you don't go into the future with an error prone old QB with a new elbow without having a viable backup ready. IRing mccown was an even dumber thing to do.

yeah, they have done ok scrounging around trying to plug up holes where they pop up but the reason that they have to scrounge so much was they put themselves in a situation that wasn't prepared for the worse. they are trying to dig themselves in a hole that they dug themselves.

i have little faith in hurney and fox's ability to fix this problem. i'd rather get someone else in here that hasn't screwed things up yet.

sad thing is, we may be stuck with these clowns for another year since at least fox has another year on his contract.

God why are we always looking at the mediocre Qbs, its the most important position in the game wouldn't logic say to skimp elsewhere?

I am tired of carolina's qb BS, get the real deal in here with some $$$ so we can start winning multiple seasons or just two in a row for christs sake.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
