What sucks is the weird position we are in not only with the Max injury, but the lack of play from Kot. If we trade for a 2nd line center, more specifically Bo, who would be a permanent fixture there, what do we do with Kot? If we trade for another wing, what do we do about 2nd line center? I think we would have to package him in a deal to somewhere.

Statsny's early season performance was lackluster, at best, playing on the 4th line. KK has been the same centering the 2nd line. Look what's happened since RBA swapped them- Statsny is playing much better with a couple net front goals on the 2nd line and KK looks better with the 4th line. He's getting looks and is more inclined to take a shot now.

Now, if KK makes some major strides this season, he could keep himself on the roster next season, but he's pretty overpaid for a 4th line center. Keep in mind he does have the ability to play the 2nd as well. Regardless, if Horvat came to Raleigh, I would anticipate an extension to keep him around after the end of the year if everything works out. The 4 centers, assuming Staal doesn't retire:

Aho, Horvat, Staal, KK

Tarasenko is a younger version of Pacioretty, by a couple years is all. But he's on IR as well with a 4-week hand injury from Jan 2. He does have 29 points in the 34 games he's played. He's also a UFA after this season. I'd be interested if the Canes could land him with a prospect and a reasonable price. Again, I don't think he's a $7.5M player, but...

Horvat has 49 points in 45 games and is 4 years younger than Tarasenko. He's currently playing out a $5.5M contract and is also a UFA at the end of the year. He could be a long term fix at the center position for the Canes on the 2nd line replacing Paul Statsny, who, at 37, will be gone after the season. And who knows how much longer Jordo is going to play?

I think Bo is our guy. Make it happen!

Saw a trade proposal on HFBoards with Chicago that had Kane and Toews coming our way for a 23 first round pick, a 25 second round pick, Jack Drury, and Derek Stepan.

As much as I’d hate to lose Drury, I’d do this trade because I think it gets us the cup.

Svechnikov - Aho - Necas

Teravainen - Toews - Kane

Martinook - Staal - Fast

Noesen - Kotkaniemi - Jarvis

Extra’s - Stastny, Kase

I'm not there on these short term rentals. There are already a couple on the roster, and it'll be enough trying to replace them in the off-season without adding a few more to the mix. The Canes success for the past few years is predicated on building a team of players who will bring consistency and a winning mentality. What the Canes have accomplished in that regard in recent years is nothing short of phenomenal.

You had a team languishing in sub-mediocrity, a fan base who had given up and attendance sucked. Enter Tom Dundon and Don Waddell, and here we are. Not only did they bring a formula to win, they brought the fans back and they built a team of exciting, young players eager to play for RBA and that, my friends, is the culture and the identity of this team.

Look, I loved the Blackhawks when they had their run. Patrick Kane may be the best American born hockey player ever, and Toews is no slouch either. But giving up 2 draft picks and Drury goes against everything the team was built on. It's fugging hard to win a Cup. And if it doesn't happen with Kane and Toews, where is the team then? Without 2 draft picks and Drury- essentially 3 players.

I'd much rather find a Bo Horvat, who would not only fill the Patches void, but also likely remain with the team with an extension. There is no shortage of players who want to come here and play for RBA. The key is just finding the right guy who fits the chemistry.

Horvat will cost a ton. Canucks fans are wanting a 1st, Morrow, and Jarvis… while it may not cost that much… it’s going to cost a ton for whoever acquires Horvat.

Edit: Here’s a sample trade I’ve seen.

Carolina Hurricanes get: C Bo Horvat and F Aidan McDonough

Vancouver Canucks get: RW Seth Jarvis, LW Stefan Noesen, D Scott Morrow, 2023 third

Under no circumstances should the Canes be moving roster players this year for acquisitions. This team has the chance to win the cup so the best option is to use draft picks and prospects to acquire players.

But by all accounts, Vancouver is asking for a young roster player in return for Horvat plus a top prospect.
