Cam set the standard for cool. He was the pioneer of cool for these young guys who followed.  He endured the ridicule and judgment that these new guys do not have to experience. Now it's encouraged and celebrated.  Hypocrisy at its finest.

Thus is ever the fare of those who come first.  Magellan was ridiculed because the world was flat.  Carl Benz for his automobile patent.  Etc.

Likewise the establishment is often only interested in seeing the status quo maintained.  At times, this is simply prudence.  At others, obstructionism.  It's the purview of everyone to think for themselves and establish which is which.

/soapbox off

Cam was a trailblazer who should have been protected and celebrated.  It sucks for Panthers nation that he was not.  But it has given us Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson, etc.  I enjoy watching them play.  It simply came a little too late for Cam.

People who say that “Cam only had one good season” fail to realize that he carried the team every season. Whatever stats he got he fought for them, for the team. He had Greg but no o-line to protect him, and an OC and HC that expected him to stand in the pocket and wait for slow developing plays to make a play, or use his legs.
And now seeing how all these chumps are celebrating every play/touchdown just reminds me that my QB started that.

I knew it as soon as I saw it. It was like a gut punch to me. That's when I knew the end was near on his career.  That was one time I wish he would just have stood there and let the guy score.

Me too. I saw him dive and land on that out stretched arm and knew it wasn’t good. Fug KB for that lazy poo route

All this, but really Cam did not help his career longevity by not learning to slide.  He took way too many hits and it would have ended prematurely even without the interception injury.  His concussion against Atlanta was a prime example of his showing up his competition prior to getting in the end zone and paying the price.  I still do not believe he had the makeup to be an all time great for a long period of time.  Accuracy issues combined with a poor attitude when games did not start well plagued him his entire career.

    • FLA showed everyone it’s not about superstars. they bullied the best line in the NHL into obscurity. they played hard, were in the right positions, and ran over everything that got in their way.
    • That’s really not what you said and when I even expressed doubt as to your intentions with the post you doubled down and remained unclear on whether you were trying to drag Dean Smith for whatever reason. You just got the facts wrong, which if you don’t follow the local college programs like you say then maybe you just were mistaken and thought Smith didn’t win championships or have legit superstars, and that is ok, but you just doubled down when my first post was more corrective than anything. I’m not sure what you expect posting objectively false things like “RBA has a lot of wins with nothing to show for it like Dean Smith” (paraphrasing) on a message board with plenty of UNC fans. I’m not taking it as a personal affront, we can agree to disagree, Dean Smith’s legacy fortunately will not be affected by this conversation. Screw the (Florida) Panthers?
    • Bring in the free agents and trades.  Florida is the best team and unless Tulsky makes it happen, it’s more of the same…which isn’t bad…but it’s time to win a goddamn cup.
