Panthers still have $23.5M in cap space

(I'm no good with the salary cap stuff either)

Lol, it’s really simple TBH. Remember when everyone was crowing about our huge 2024 cap space? It was at one point over $100M available. It’s now at $40M according to Sportrac and we don’t even have a full team there like Burns isn’t under contract yet.

It’s kick the can and it’s not hard to do but it does mean that we really don’t have gobs of space available like some people thought. We’ll just keep having to restructure yearly. That’s good in that it’s easy to do and bad because it’s not like we are signing tier 1 FAs. It all still boils down to rookie QB and the rest of the draft. We have to start pulling multiple winners so we have Chase and Higgins instead of Thielen and Chark. Pulling a Kelce or Kittle or Andrews at 39 would be a great example of what would change our ceiling.

Well if I'm being honest, part of it is lack of interest 😄

I don't doubt that I could probably figure out the details of the cap and all if I applied myself, but I'm not that into it. And there are guys on here who already understand it pretty well so I can always just listen to them.

I can spend plenty of time analyzing coaches, players, strategies, etc. but I'll leave the economics to others 🙂

Just an FYI, the LOL was directed to the SNL image, not at your horrific level of knowledge on cap analysis. 😉

Still banging the drum for a tight end I see.  Just for arguments sake who do you see as a Kelce or Little level player. Mayer?  His best case scenario is Jason Witten. The big kid from Bama? He could end up just like OJ Howard. He can block but his receiving skill is underdeveloped. Kincaid? He is Gesicki all over again and a liability at blocking. If there is a Kittle or Kelce they going in the 1st.  It's a crowded market of teams needing a tight end and not enough high tier guys to go around. Corner,Edge and ILB are three positions we need more than a TE to push Ian and Tremble out.

Kelce was a 3rd and Kittle was a 5th. There’s no secret sauce to know exactly who the next Kelce will be but the TE class is as deep and good as it’s been in many years. Also, if we get a Witten, we should be so lucky. Here’s an article for you: https://theathletic.com/1067715/2019/07/10/19-in-19-13-jason-witten-a-true-iron-man-and-so-much-more-than-the-lunchpail-cliche/?redirected=1

It’s funny because there’s an assumption in your post that a CB, ILB or Edge are guaranteed. As if Eli Apples and Gauldens and Donte Jacksons and CJ Hendersons don’t exist.

When a position is historically deep it just means you have a much better chance of getting great value. In a great TE class, a guy available at 39 is likely a 1st rounder other years. That’s how you get value and excel at drafting when your picks are limited. Edge is similar, very deep this year, which was another reason I was good with trading Burns. If a top edge guy drops, I’d be fine as well.

    • Hello there.  We are rolling out a complete overhaul of the Huddle. Why: Frankly this site is so old the database and antiquated software has gotten unmanageable. There is not much we can do to fix anything anymore. The new site is wired for the future including getting back in the app stores.    When:  Hopefully by early July so that we can test and recover things. After the migrations we will still have access to the old site behind the scenes to bring over anything we missed.    Wait, will I lose anything?  We are only bringing over topics and posts from the past calendar year. The tinderbox is being set on fire and rolled off a cliff. All it ever did was made this place feel horrible all while changing approximately 0 minds in 20 years.  The new site will only have 4 forums to keep this joint Carolina team sports focused. Panthers, Hornets, Charlotte FC, Hurricanes.    Improved Moderation  This is a clean slate for us, as such if you are a problematic member (you know who you are) that enjoys getting banned and coming back, we aim to make it much more difficult for you. However, upon the move your slate is clean. Take advantage of it.  We would love to get this place back to what it used to be. Nice folks with friendly banter centered around Carolina sports. We will be using the BAN HAMMER liberally to rid this place of people who aren't interested in that or try to drag the new site back into the gutter.   New Features With new tech comes new features we will be rolling out over the rest of the year.    What about the damn ads?  Fewer and less problematic ads. Again, new tech allows for this. Without ads this place gets shut down.    What if I can't login?  If you can't login due to not being able to reset your password from the login screen, email [email protected] with your username and we will get you squared away.    Let me know if you have any specific questions.
